Or the power of Sanchez to be a leader. He read them the riot act yesterday. After Brady led a team meeting on the field (the contents of which he didn't share with the media)after the Pats 2nd fight the situation went away.
Rex stopped practice due to the fights. This is just for show, he's probably loving this...considering on Hard Knock he sent Turner in a series to start a fight because he didn't see enough fire from everyone.
Typically Rex is behind the curve when it comes to recognizing something could be a problem. While Sanchez of all people had to call out bad behavior before it finally gets through Rex's thick skull that MULTIPLE fights in the matter of 48 hours are an issue.
Did you watch the video of the "20 man brawl" from yesterday? That's the way the media is phrasing it. When I think 20 man brawl I think 20 guys shoving, throwing punches, face masking each other, etc. You know what I saw in the video of the "20 man brawl"...I saw a defender be overly agressive with a RB, him throwing the ball at the defender's helmet and them wrestling each other to the ground. Then I saw the rest of the team come to break up the fight. Not one punch thrown. Not any aggressive actions outside of the two guys involved in the original scuffle. That doesn't mean it's cool to throw a ball at a guy's helmet and that I condone that but it was a heat of the moment thing. In reality this was a scuffle between two guys and then the rest of the team trying to break it up. But that won't sell as many papers as a "20 man brawl" headline will. Hell, if the other guys had stood around and done nothing the media would have spun it as "Jets watch as teammates scuffle, they clearly don't care enough about the team to try and step in and stop it." Again, every team has scuffles, you said it yourself. The Jets have had, what, three? Big deal. If it got to the point where there really was a 20 man brawl or there were legitimate fist fights off of the field I would be concerned and would say so. If being incredibly realistic on what the implications of a few minor scuffles in training camp are and not assuming it means the entire team hates each other and the season is going to be an utter disaster is your definition of being "in denial" then sure, I'm in denial.
This is true. Rex was a D vs O kind of DC with the Ravens. His defensive players were always bitching about the offense while he was there (sometimes with good reason). I wondered when they passed him over for the HC job there if this had a part in their thinking.
I am not saying the media doesn't blow shit out of proportion. I didn't see the video because I knew it was probably just a couple guys being broken aprt by everyone else. The concern is that it occurred again today and practice had to be stopped twice. What a waste of time and risk of injury for nothing.
Except for one thing...the Pats nipped it in the bud after a couple of fights, it took like five or six for Rex to 'attempt' to do that. I can't subscribe to the 'it's camp' rationale when it happens so frequently in such a short period of time. Especially after all of last year's bellyaching.
As long as they go out and are in the Bengals face on Friday I won't have a problem with it. If they are timid at game time and then the next practice start fighting with each other it'll be a bad sign for me. Right now they have a lot of built up tension and they are ready to go, they have no other way to vent that tension but on each other, unfortunately.
The first fight yesterday had all the markings of an orchestrated wake up call. RB coach's son picks fight with underachieving RB? The stuff today is different. These guiys really get sick of hitting the same guys day after day. You hope the hate developing between players on each side doesn't carry into the season in the lockerroom. I think these teams that hold joint practice with preseason opponents may have the right idea. Take it out on guys from the other team.
Man, so many people bitching about nothing. We'll be fine, fellas. I don't even see the big deal, there's probably been worse than has not been reported through the years. There is no SCHISM, there's no problem. They just want to hit some other people. This team is going to be pretty damn good this year, because they have chips on their shoulders. They're constantly derided and ridiculed by their own media market and on a nationally level, and they're coming off a disappointing year where they missed the playoffs by a single fucking game. This team is pissed off and they're going to surprise a lot of people.
I disagree. I think Rex is evolving as HC and truly is trying to get away from his hand-off smily-smily approach.
Tebow was the front runner on the punishment circle. I think the headlines will be something like "TT runs away from trouble" -- more controversy this way.
That's because you think your coach is a deity. I don't like it myself and am glad the Jets don't do it.
Ok let me see if I understand it all correctly: Holmes and Sanchez hate each other. Sanchez is lazy, coddled and is also a dick. RR has lost control of the team. Cromartie and Chaz Schilens hate each other. All 53 players on the team hate each other. Tebow is Jesus reincarnated. Pats showing a lot of fire in camp, watch out this team gives a fuck. Am I forgetting anything?
I think everyone is reading into this way too much. It's just a couple of fights at camp big deal. The only reason it seems so much worse this year is because we are so far under the media microscope this year everthing is reported as news. If it wasn't for Holme's little out-burst last year (which I also think was blown out of proportion) and Tebow being a Jet now, all of this would be a side note of training camp reviews.
Holy crap. Have sports journalists ever played, you know, sports? I could practice a contact sport with my grandma and punches might get thrown. This stuff is just part of it, it only gets mentioned because of the magnitude of coverage and a media desire to make the Jets look bad.
