Rex shouldn't be saying anything to the public just say that fights happen. Rex isn't handling this well.
I don't think it matters what Rex says or doesn't say. If he's silent, then it'll be "Always talkative Rex doesn't know how to handle controversy and loses the team". If he says that the fight is not a big deal, it'll be "Rex keeps his casual attitude instead of learning from past mistakes & so he's losing the team." If he's stern and delivers punishment, it's "Rex is trying to change his colors, which never works and so he will lose his team."
I loved Eric Smith's answer to the press regarding todays skirmishes and gassers: "There are fights in every training camp. I don't know why it's such a big deal right now. Guess you guys got tired of talking about Tebow so now you want to talk about fights."
Per ESPN: "Can't the Jets just have a normal training camp? You know, no holdouts, no QB competitions between a guy who is a quarterback and a guy who is half-QB/half-mascot, no fights between teammates right in the middle of two-a-days. Too much to hope for? Probably, though we wouldn't have it any other way. The Jets might not be good this year, but they're definitely going to be interesting." SportsNation idiots: 53% think Rex is the wrong coach for the Jets and 49% call brawls team disunity. I'm appalled.
My team isn't the only one who does it. And you don't like it, but don't even attempt to give one valid reason why you don't like. You don't like it because the Pats do it.
Smith should be the last person to talk down to the media. His horrific play last season negated any right he has to criticize any sort of media coverage.
I do, however, like when low-profile football players (essentially) tell reporters to STFU when they're being stupid.
Why are you still surprized? Actually, I kinda like this bullshit. I distinctly remember last year reports from Giants camp. Especially after they lost Smith to Eagles and Eli said his is an elite QB, it was nuts. Of course, the difference is that then craziness was football-related and at least somewhat plausible. 90% of now crap is media making up a story and then dissect it. Kinda funny actually. 1st they take half-baked "news", ofter fabricated (Cimini is the master of this). Then they get a bunch of "experts" to discuss. Then it's the topic of articles and talk shows for the next 2-3 days. Everyone is happy -- jobs are secured cumbayya all around. Repeat as needed... Revis' "holdout" is a perfect example. Anyway... the reason why I kinda like this BS is because everyone discounts Jets. Even here, on TGG, you can see it somewhat. Good -- under radar baby!
I like the fact that they're getting in each other's faces. To me it says that the offense wants to be extremely physical this year. Holmes makes a good point when he says "It shows that our offense won't be a pushover this season. We just have to understand we can't do anything detrimental to our team by doing those types of things."
100% of people that actually vote on sports nation polls have no idea what a football summer/training camp is actually like. I'm glad Eric Smith said something, it could have been a 6th stringer for all I care. If the media can call out ESmith for shitty play, why can't he call them out for shitty reporting?
Cromartie the badass brawler...........LOVE IT we havent had an enforcer since Bryan Cox.............im buying a Nike Cromartie jersey as soon as I find 1........
And almost 50% of this site believe Rex has lost this team in the poll on the front page... I would be more disappointed in those that actually follow this team and believe this garbage.
