Holy shit, can anyone really see Cro saying this seriously in total fucking honesty? In all likelihood, how do people not take what Cro said as a joke? And even if he believes that, who gives a shit, he's obviously not becoming the #2 WR, nor would he qualify as such. It was him just talking shit, and if his WR's take that seriously, then they need to fucking toughen up. We don't have a serious #2 receiver who has proven their worth on this team, and if they want to prove him wrong, then prove him wrong on the field. Either way -- all it does is motivate the offense to "shut him up". I really don't see any down side in this, the Defensive units and offensive units are two different teams in a respect. As long as the Defense plays their best, and the offense plays their, best -- I don't care. What I'm more impressed with, however, is how Rex took the situation at hand, and "squashed" it. He just told the reporters ,i have it covered. When they asked the same question in a different form, he just looked at them like they were a red headed step child and repeatedly said "I HAVE IT COVERED." Aka, I'm going to deal with it, now shut the fuck up.
This is all healthy banter. It's not like they play on the same side of the ball. The defensive players are doing a good job in practice when they crush the offense. Cro is actually being pretty damn witty to say he could do their job better. And if he actually can play WR than the point will be proved. And yes the media sucks. At this point I wish they let hard knocks come back so this shit could be filmed without dickchini and his posse twisting the truth
He said it in a taped interview on First Take, so there's no need to speculate or say "in all likelihood" as you can see for yourself. Here it is: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8219271 He wasn't joking. A "team" doesn't want to have one unit pitted against the other in such a fashion. It does little else but cause trouble. Agreed.
Even if he wasn't joking, who gives a shit? Yet again, what has any of these receivers done to prove that they truly are a great #2 receiver? We have a rookie, a slot receiver, and an unknown. Cro believes in his abilities, and let him believe in that. As to your second statement, YOu say it does little but cause trouble, but I already said it CAN help in motivating the offense. The two units have NO effect on each other and their chemistry, and frankly, if a rivalry developers, I can only see it helping in making the two act their best to shut the other one up. Thank you for the direct link, guess we just disagree on what the outcomes will be. I also am fascinated on how they tried to bait a response on him regarding the Sanchez vs. Tebow debate...did anyone else catch that? It was so pathetic it's laughable..so ummmm....we were...you know...debating between...hmm. left handed QBs and Right handed Qbs...(..?)..So did you like Tebow or Sanchez better?!?!!??!?! -- Boom, instant media piece if he didn't answer that right. It's fucking pathetic how they try to bait these players and coaches into answering how THEY want them to answer, instead of just actually using any sort of journalistic integrity.
I don't want to make this a Tebow discussion (this disclaimer absolves me of all that may follow), but wasn't bringing in Tebow supposed to fix the lockerroom situation by "providing a positive influence" and whatever else he does? The Tebots (no offense; ya'll just need a label) will probably be able to further elaborate on whatever he does to "make everyone around him more team-oriented" or whatever. Having said that, if bringing in Tebow doesn't help the lockerroom situation then Tebowing is the definition of sacrilegious, because we sure needed a miracle after last season. Seriously though, we need to fix or nuke this lockerroom.
Media is what media is, Jets always play right injto their hands. I doubt it is even hard work top get a story out of Jets circus act. Impressed with Rex's handling of the situation, not really. All he said is that he will handle it, they shouldn't have introduced the WR thought to Cromartie in the first place. Rex has very little method to his head coaching, things for players to lean on, he makes a lot up as he goes.
Well, let's see, they did enough to have the Jets sign them to contracts AS WIDE RECEIVERS. Last I checked, Cro hasn't played the position. It would be like me walking into your work and saying I can do your job better than you. You don't think that would get under a person's skin ? Like hell the two have no effect on each other and their chemistry. Good lord, have you ever played a team sport ? Or perhaps "office politics" ? here's a quick one. Cro possibly has friends on the offense. Those friends might defend him. That creates a wall between those friends and the receivers. That's just an immediate one right off the bat. Second thing is just the negativity that comes from such a thing. Guys might be going around saying "Fark Cromartie". It brings unneeded tension and drama into a locker room. In the end, nothing is served by it being "offense versus defense". Instead, it should be The Jets against everyone else. You're welcome. Yeah, it sucks, but the players HAVE to understand that this is going on and they HAVE to go out of their way not to fall into things.
Cromartie. Sheesh. He should have been a one-and-done player. I wrote that when he was acquired. He never should have been brought back for a second season with the Jets. Then in January, I spoke to a college coach who happens to be a friend of Bill Belichick and has many other contacts in the league. This particular individual stated that the best thing the Jets can do in the off season is rid themselves of Cromartie. That comment was made during a phone call while I was viewing the putrid Broncos-Patriots playoff game. If Ryan is the defensive genius he claims he is, then he should be able to get big time results without Cromartie on the roster.
Kind of on topic: I was reading about a brawl that happened during Pats training camp. The article wrote it off as guys just "wanting to hit somebody." Could you imagine what they would say if that happened with the Jets? It would be: Rex has lost the room, the locker room is more divided then ever, it's a Tebow vs Sanchez thing, sweeping changes are needed. But when it's the Pats: Guys just are excited for the season to start. That pisses me off.
I was actually thinking the same...media is obsessed with the patriots. If that fight would have broken out here it would have been "BREAKING NEWS" everywhere. Don't give in to the media, they will do anything to bash the Jets. As synical as the majority of the articles are there are some written with optimism. "The Myth: The New York Jets are a chaotic mess at quarterback. The Truth: Mark Sanchez/Tim Tebow will work. Let me give it to you in the simplest of terms. Tebow is the backup quarterback and will run the Wildcat. He is an upgrade over Mark Brunell. And because he is the omnipresent Timothy Richard Tebow, he will light a fire under Sanchez. In fact, he already has. Sanchez made too many turnovers in big spots last season and lost the team. The Jets smartly moved to spark him. Talking to Sanchez, you hear an edge, a seriousness to him that hadn't been evident in his first three years. He is now the first guy in the building and the last one to leave. New offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is key. He has a no-nonsense style, and Sanchez has responded to his coaching. Sparano will run the ball, unlike former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who ruined Christmas with the 59 passes he had Sanchez attempt in a Dec. 24 loss to the Giants. Tebow is Sparano's New York version of Ricky Williams/Ronnie Brown. The polarizing signal-caller will run the Wildcat. Sanchez will be split out wide and deal with it, the way Chad Pennington did when the Miami Dolphins ran the Wildcat. I'm not naïve when it comes to the power of Tebow. Every Sanchez miscue will be magnified, with chants of "Te-bow" heard in unison. But let's not forget that Sanchez does have four road playoff wins under his belt. The Jets' defense will help out, returning to prominence as a top-three unit. Last year was a lost season. The Tebow trade has actually helped Sanchez -- and the Jets -- find their identity again."
Who's said Tebow's mere presence would "fix this lockerroom?" Not one of his teammates has ever said anything other than that he's a positive influence and a natural leader - and apparently the Jets need more of that. But if anyone, Tebot or otherwise, has said the mere presence of a backup QB would fix a dysfunctional lockerroom or suddenly cause idiots like Cromartie to change their stripes, I'm not aware of it. Having said that, I don't see what the big deal is with what Cromartie said. That's what he does.
stop blaming it all on the media...the jets have BIG mouths from the HC on down...in fact, he started it, encourages it and the media just opens their books and write it all down...amazing how jets fans think they are "victims" of the media! no team in sports courts media attention like the jets...remember, it rex's big yap that makes you all think he is a "great" coach
Yeah not his winning record over 3 years, no losing seasons, 4 playoff wins, etc etc. It's his mouth. The Jets are victims of the media, if you read headlines, vs context of quotes, vs actual quotes you see the Jets rarely get portrayed fairly. It is because of their coach and players, but every team should be given fair coverage. The only real time you could call out the Jets for being arrogant trash talkers who had no right speak was in 2010 before their second playoff game. Besides that whats the worst they have said?
0 superbowls so hea not a great coach. Andy Reid has Rex blown away in championship game appearances is he a great coach. It's not the media it's the jets and fans no other team has the combo that acts the way the jets do
