My post isn't to say Mac intended or deserves to be blamed for the ass hats that are in the Jets locker room. I've just been thinking a lot about how a team that is made up of mostly the same players can look this bad coming off a 10-6 season. I know the schedule and competition between the two seasons factors into that but I also think that by Mac being smart and structuring all these contracts to be voidable after this season may have caused a ripple effect in this locker room by accident as well. I just look at players like Revis and I can't help but think he was looking past this season before it even started. Coming in over weight, refusing to play bump, playing passive in the tackle game, etc.
I strongly suggest watching Troy Aikman's episode of Football life. Especially his treatment of Barry Switzer and the comparison between Barry and Jimmy Johnson.
I am suggesting that Revis did not have his toxic attitude until Todd Bowles began to coach him. I am also suggesting that the Sith lord coaching the Patriots would not allow this problem to fester the way Bowles did. Revis getting long in the tooth and losing his speed / aggressiveness is more then enough reason to let him go even if his attitude improved 100% overnight.
Honestly, the players started believing their own bullshit. Record Jet years = finally playing good ball by any other standard. Then start the injury train, which Decker led....as soon as Decker got hurt, everyone knew where Fitz was going, and it became easy to defend. That should have been fixed by the coaches. Once teams realized the jets secondary wasn't worth the shoes they wear, they started exploiting them, which made it far more difficult for the D-Line to get pressure. It all snowballed. A lot of it should have been accounted for by the coaching staff. Playing your DBs 10 yards off the receiver to stop the long ball, is absolutely asinine. The most condemning thing I think for Bowles is, he's a defensive coach. He was a defensive player. Week after week the excuse was "not a lack of effort, we just need to communicate better"......well WTF he had months to fix the problem, and he never did. Maybe they need to get Verizon involved. Fookin meat head bowles.
We had a shit load of cap space when Maccagnan got his job too, even more than that and he wasted all of it on bad contracts...I really hope he isn't the one to decide how to spend it this time.
I don't have an issue with the deals that Mac gave out. The players performed well last year, things just didn't work out this season. We got a competitive year out of it in 2015 and most of the deals are easy to bail out of going forward. The key is drafting and developing young talent in the meantime, which is where we usually falter.
I the multi-year deal has most or all of the guaranteed money upfront it is a good deal. Cutting Revis will only count $6 mil of dead cap money even though his contract foes through 2019. Ryan Clady is signed through next year but will only cost $500K of dead money to cut. Nick Mangold is locked up for 2017 but we can cut him with no dead money if we wish. Eric Decker is locked up through 2018 but would cost $3 mil to cut now. We can cut Breno and only lose $625 K of dead money. Please tell me how Mac did a bad job with these contracts.
T-Bomb's cap-hell driving monstrosities of contracts are good contracts. Get it? ========================================================================== Some people need to learn to enjoy jokes.
Has an NFL GM ever been traded?or traded themselves away for the good of the team?Woody should make the Jets the first team in the league where the fans are the GM.We vote on everything who needs this overpriced hack in a suit
