We are impatient and quick to label players injury prone even when complications occur as a result of things that have nothing to do with contact on the field of play. IMO, Some players truly do have a history of getting hurt beyond the normal range during games or during training with clearly sports related injuries. They don't seem to have the physical capacity to endure the brutality of the hits, and or the intensity to absorb the change of direction loads they normally get subjected to. IMO, Devin Smith was a classic case for us. Enunwa along the same lines worries me a little bit, but is too early to tell and hopefully he will prove me wrong. But when you have a lingering pinch nerve as a result of a surgery to repair a shoulder, as in the case of Maye, it is hard to label that as injury pron in my view. At least not yet. He did not re-injure anything, he is unfortunately not healing as predicted due to post surgery complications. Had he re injured it in the field of play I would agree, but this might just be a freaky situation that we have to be patient with. Unfortunately the result to the team is the same, he is not playing when you need him, but hopefully when he returns he will be 100%. Durability is important, but sometimes physical setbacks are not a reflection of being injury prone. I hope Maye puts it behind him soon enough. This is a big year for this team and he needs to be a part of that development.
Maybe the nerve thing is a good thing. He won't need the big needle Sunday's to deaden the pain in his shoulder. He can just lower his shoulder and BAM!!! No pain (at least not for him!) A shoulder isn't like your fingers playing the violin. Just lower it and plow ahead. If his shoulder is already numb from nerve damage, so beit. Raising his arm to pick off a pass may be a different story. He may hit himself in the face!
A nerve issue in the shoulder can mean a bunch of different things. If it’s a motor nerve he’s going to have weakness which will severely impair his tackling ability. The brachial plexus passes near the armpit and provides motor innervation to all of the muscles of the upper and lower arm. Depending on which root/branch is involved he can have a number of different motor symptoms. It’s not a pain tolerance issue.
Thanks for the med update....I was just messing. Have you ever slept on your arm wrong and woke up with it 'dead'? It flops around for a bit till the blood flows. That would suck playing football with a floppy arm!
I'm not going to argue with you. Hes been out with a shoulder. That someone reported the shoulder issue is the nerve after his surgery it doesnt make him more injury prone than before the injury. If you want to argue that it makes him more injury prone do it with someone else. Youre done with me? Fine
I know what you mean. I don't even consider him on the roster unless he's on the field at this point.
This is excellent news. Maye is a very talented player (when healthy) and can really help a defense that’s short handed in the back end. Him and Jamal is a top notch safety combo.
Can anecdotally (spelling?) confirm. Was in a bad accident years ago that resulted in significant nerve damage. Bones healed fine but the nerve pain lasted years and was by far the worst part.
