It may not be this year, but i dont see Bowles and Mac remaining in this organization after 2 seasons tops. No growth as a coach from Bowles and Mac is a real hit or miss. I dont believe we will get back to the playoffs with this current organization. Though I hope I am wrong.
Unfortunately, i am starting to agree with this. I like both, and they both had potential, but Bowles is typical DC who becomes head coach. This idea that they have to win a certain way is what hinders him. Like winning with an explosive offense isn't an option. Mac seems to be panicking. I dunno why. He did a good job last season despite gutting the team. It just shows that he will make rash decisions when pressure. Whether or not cousins is the best fit or not is irrelevant, its the reek of desperation thats coming with him. Just do what youbneed to do quietly like you have without all the media involvement. I give Mac credit for gutting the roster of unproductive vets last year, but his draft picks leave a lot to be desired. He really needs to come through this year and get a FQB and improve the offense through free agency and the draft. Bowles, IMO, is not cut out to be a HC. The lack of in game adjustments is troubling.
I think he really has to adjust his ideas on how to be productive. If your passing game is better than your running game, just do that of its working. I dont get all the mandates about being committed to the run. The pass can open up the run and vice versa Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I'm pretty sure that we were in the middle of the pack when it came to who had the youngest team by starters. Also what "talent" are you referring to?
It doesn't seem like it. Johnson already said there's no playoffs mandate for 2018. To me it feels like this guy is entrenched here no matter what happens. And let's get real the Jets are gonna spend a fortune this off season on Cousins and who knows how many other players? And they have high picks in every round of the draft they're not gonna be bad in 2018. MacCagnan ain't getting fired anytime soon.
If that happened, it's most likely that Macc isn't going anywhere, provided they don't ignore the center position, and get a decent corner to compliment that secondary and draft an edge rusher somewhere in the early 3 rounds of the draft. Upgrading the team like that is guaranteed to put us in playoff contention unless Kirk gets hurt or somehow gets worse. I don't really see it though, the Redskins were a joke and I feel he overachieved there based on the talent on that team. For me it's all about fixing QB and oline. Once that is done everything else will fall into place. I still want Skrine gone and replaced by somebody like Butler.
The Jets were the 6th youngest team in the league last year as far as the entire 53 man roster goes and that's with old ass McCown on the roster. I can't find any stats that only include the starters, however.
Here is our young core to build a team around. And I think this is a pretty good core. Not too much on the offensive side though but we can work on that this off season. Robby Anderson - Has to get his head on right and I think we give him once more chance to do so. Leonard Williams - All Pro Talent just need to surround him with the right guys. Darron Lee - Talent is there and the game slowed down for him this year. Jamal Adams - All Pro Talent Marcus Maye - Pro Bowl / borderline All Pro Talent
I don't like the no playoff mandate but I understand it, as they don't want to put unnecessary pressure on admin and possibly force hasty or irrational decisions. However, if Jets go 5-11 again, someone is getting fired!
What no Hack in that group? Seriously, what about Enunwa, Jenkins, and Tomlinson? If he's re-signed and continues to develop, I think ASJ could be considered a core player.
You are right about Enunwa provided he comes back and performs at 2016 levels. Jenkins leaves a lot to be desired for me. Jury is still out on him. ASJ could def be considered in that core if he is resigned.
Just mentioned this in another post. We started throwing more last year and it was working. McCown was the best at converting 3rd downs in the league last year. The running game on the other hand didn’t even get going on most weeks due to lack of push from the offensive line. Instead of just going with what has been working, Bowles fires the guy who made the offense look halfway decent despite the lack of talent citing that he didn’t like that he didn’t run enough. It’s this defensive coordinator mindset that has put us at the bottom of the league in offensive production since 2012.
He had some real problems outside of play calling. Thatsbwhy he was fired. From what i understand, ot was more internal than anything. Apparently he caused strife with players. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Wouldn’t want to upset this team that went 5-11. Anyway, Bates could turn out to be a great coach, but I don’t think it’s gonna work out unless they get Cousins or another superstar that masks the problem. We’ve changed offensive coordinators every year, I don’t know how that is going to bring about success.
If Mac delivers on a QB & actually addresses the offense I don’t see him being gone for at least another year..however..I think it’s very plausible that the talent level will be much better than the last 2 seasons but the results will be largely the same as the team is still extremely young & the HC is mediocre. As a result Bowles will be gone & it’s always possible MAC is shown the door right along w him.
