You really think anything is set in stone about the draft in March? For all we know, the Browns are working the dumb teams (of course the Jets are sneaky smart and excluded from that list) to trade one of their picks and take QB with the other, unless they are dumber than all of those teams and think Tie Rod is the future. Remember when we stole the Beast Leonard at 6? And he was not a stigma position like RB. Have some hope. You're a Jets fan, that's your only fuel at this point.
No, I still prefer - by a narrow margin - Rosen, but would be happy with Mayfield too. But in the above scenarios, Mayfield not being taken at all in the first 6 picks, and specifically not by the Jets would be a situation where I would finally admit there's no hope for this franchise under the present leadership.
Plan A: Get Cousins and use the draft fill in the roster Plan B: Get a Qb in the draft and use free agency to fill in the roster If Im McCagnan I am asking my scouts to forumulate a list of th Top 3 QBs in the draft and I am doing everything I can to jump up to #3 with Indy or #4 with Cleveland. He needs to get it right with QB this offseason. Nothing else will save his job if he screws that up again.
Well I actually overlooked Rosen at 6 in the first scenario - my bad. That would be more than acceptable with me if that happened. My position remains, if no Cousins (who I really don't want but do understand the reasons for), then they need to get: 1A. Rosen 1B. Mayfield 2. Darnold Any other QB is a big question mark IMO. If Allen were there at #6 (assuming the Jets didn't/couldn't trade up to get one of the top 3), I would seriously consider selling the pick for more premium draft capital and taking a QB lower - Jackson, Falk, Rudolph, and in that case would also consider double-dipping and taking another QB later too.
Pretty much lockstep with you here. The only difference is I will be equally excited about either Rosen, Mayfield & Darnold. If the Jets don’t get Cousins, which is looking like the most likely outcome then I do think they have to be aggressive to get their top choice of the 3. Also disagree with Allen, if he is the only QB left at 6 I’d take him and hope for the best. I’m very intrigued by Allen but ultimately hope that he is taken ahead of the Jets and would certainly select one of the other 3 over him.
I'm not an expert, and even if I were I don't access to all the information and tape on Allen. I'm going on the limited stuff I've seen posted here, so maybe Macc & Bowles see something in him that ensures them that he's a "can't miss" guy, BUT, these are the same guys who took Hack and Petty and neither one has panned out. "Rocket arm; perfect size; huge upside" these are the neon lights that blind people. The reality is that he hasn't ever completed 60% of his passes, and he seems to have real trouble on short to intermediate throws - how does that translate into a WCO that the Jets are going to use? The only thing I know for sure is that I want a true FQB for the Jets. If it turns out to be Allen or even Hack, I don't really care, but I'm highly doubtful that either will even be a starting NFL QB. let alone a FQB.
Yeah, that's what made me ask the question. It seemed that he was mad that the Jets took Rosen instead of Mayfield.
I say anything goes in the FA and draft. We have to go beyond due diligence and get players that can deliver now rather than take space on the bench and never develop or are used by the coaching staff.
I think the author of this article has no clue what he's talking about. Mayfield would be a GREAT fit in the Jets' new culture.
I definitely agree that somebody high rated will fall. I just don't see Barkley lasting past the top 3, the Giants won't be able to resist. If somebody falls, IMO it will be Chubb, which wouldn't be a bad thing provided the QB situation is taken care of. I will try not to give up hope!
Fixed. No sports fan should ever pass up an opportunity to describe two options that are equally superior to all others as "1 and 1a." You only get so many chances to use this strangely perfect designation.
He actually didn’t touch on culture much at all, he mainly just discussed on and off the field incidents. One guys opinion I guess.
I'm not going to quibble. My post was meant to say that they are virtually equal in my opinion...I give a slight nod to Rosen over Mayfield wouldn't cry if we got 1B instead of 1A.
