Yea I've loved him since day one but his tackling is below avg... that said he's 17 times better than Crofartie

PS Kyle Wilson was actually on our squad for 4 miserable years not 3

He doesn't tackle well in the open field. He seems to do ok when his man catches the ball.

Hopefully the mismatch in skills goes away as he gains confidence. If you're going to be a good zone CB you have to be able to make open field tackles reliably. If you're going to be good pressing you have to be able to function at a high level watching your man, not the QB.

Those were his exact words, I'll try to find the transcript (or the video) but the entire thing was just cringe worthy. It already takes balls for a reporter to even bring this up, basically saying that Cro stinks and he's the problem, that he has to be benched. But the thing is the reporter did it THREE times, he just didn't want to let go. He goes "Is he gonna start again?" and Bowles is like "Yeah, Cromartie is our starter". Usually that's when this subject is done with, but the reporter then goes "Why is he your starter?" and Bowles' response was like "Because he earned it". And again the reporter goes "How did he earn it?" and Bowles says "Because of his performance in camp and preseason and his play over the years". It was really a pathetic thing for Bowles to do. I usually have his back but you can't give us this bullshit just because Cro is your boy. Making shit up and talking him up and defending him 100% of the time and on the other hand you're gonna trash Devin after a drop or two. A rookie! Yet he didn't have the balls to call out Cro for sucking the entire year. Double standards.

He was definitely the lone bright spot last year. He could be our future starter at CB opposite Revis. Doesn't look like Dee is stepping up anytime soon...

Starts at around 4:25. You can see how irritated he was, that smirk on his face. He was ready to unload on the guy but unlike Rex he is really good at staying calm. I know it was a rough stretch for him but he really needs to do what's best for the team and not let his personal feelings or relationships get in the way.

Any coach deals with his vets and rookies differently. The vets don't get the same open criticism because they know they're screwing up and they know they're going to lose their job if it continues. You don't need to rub it in a guy's face when he's on the bubble and you both know it. With rookies and younger players you have to set expectations and sometimes the best way to do that is in a public conversation, assuming that you then put the guy in a position to succeed after that.

Bowles had a few things to say about Devin Smith (rookies) and then he put him on the field for 35 snaps to make an impact. Smith made an impact. That's a win-win.

With Cro there's nothing Bowles can say that is going to fix the situation. Cro either gets a second wind (as he looked like he might be doing yesterday) or he doesn't. If he doesn't he's toast. There's no point in calling him out on this because he knows the deal and so does Bowles.

You know, you were on your way to winning me over in a post until you included this bullshit. Most of your posts are melodrama tripe, but this one had promise. Then you post this blatant lie after trashing Bowles for months.

    What a poor-posting twerp.

I'm sure one of our practice squad scrubs that you were blowing all preseason needs a fluff job, why don't you go do what you're good at?

I disagree that back up and spot starter are his best positions. He should be starting imo.

Seriously? You'll lose all faith in Bowles if Cro starts over Williams? If you do, be sure not to jump back on the bandwagon when Bowles becomes a long-term fixture at HC for the Jets and has produced a consistent competitor for the Lombardi Trophy. Could it not be that Bowles views tackling as more important than getting interceptions since a CB is not going to get that many opportunities for interceptions, but will get LOTS of opportunities to tackle? Bowles likes to play his CBs on islands. If the CB can't tackle, he would be a HUGE liability, and I can understand Bowles not trusting him regardless of how many picks he has in spot playing time. IMO it's easier to get interception when you're playing as a nickel or dime back and know that you have other DBs around and behind you to make the tackle and you can just go for the ball. It's an entirely different matter when one is out there on an island and responsible for keeping your man from scoring. If he misses a tackle on that island, it's a TD and could easily cost the team a game. There's no excuse for not learning to tackle, especially for a young, undrafted player who's having to try to earn a spot on a roster and then earn playing time. If Williams can't tackle, he's the only one to blame for not seeing more playing time.

He was wrong to call out Devin Smith. And he's wrong for not calling out Cro. And you're right, there's nothing Bowles can do to make sure Cro doesn't get toasted every week, that's on Cro. If he doesn't fix it however you throw his ass on the bench, it's that simple. You play the best guys, not your favorite player. Marcus Williams has outplayed him times ten since day one of training camp. We're not talking about a game, a day, we're talking about training camp, preseason and regular season. So stop with this "UDFA" nonsense. That's what really drives me nuts with coaches, the politics behind all this shit. You don't play your best players, you play the guys who make the most money, the guys that were drafted early. Who gives a shit! Play whoever is helping you win games. Right now that's Marcus Williams. He has been all year. Yet you want to live in the past and continue to play this chump who gets burned for a bigplay touchdown every single week? And then you wonder why this team is losing? Does this make sense? At least with Demario Davis he finally made some adjustments. But his golden boy he brought over from Arizona is untouchable. Go look around the league, the best teams in the NFL don't force guys on the field that suck just because they make a lot of money, they just play their best players no matter where they were drafted or what their salary is.

Especially when the UDFAs have problems with the very basics of the game like tackling.

Cromartie is the worst tackler in the NFL! You just made my point!

Look up his posts. He's been trashing the CS since they PS'd a couple of his practice squad binkies.

No, I didn't. You missed my point. Bowles has a level of trust in Cromartie, even though he is poor tackler, because he worked with him and has a lot of experience with him. He knows what Cro can and can't do. Williams is still a bit of an unknown to Bowles. Many HCs, and not just rookie HCs, tend to favor vets over young players because they know those vets have seen more, they know what to expect from them, and generally, those vets won't make a bonehead play that will cause you to lose. Williams may be proving himself by getting interceptions, but still causing doubts by poor tackling and/or not being as reliable in coverage in practice and/or games.

I'd feel completely comfortable cutting Cro this offseason and letting Williams start opposite Revis with Skrine in the slot.

Wilson actually wasn't completely horrible I know I know it ended really bad but he was ok as a nickel, When he was asked to start that's when he really struggled, fast is we never should have drafted him. I think with him, like as the game change as the NFL got more and more talent at the WR then he eventually got exposed. U know what nvm you're right lol

This type of thinking is only going to get him fired. I get what you're trying to say but it's bullshit. Cromartie has been piss poor this year, any way you want to look at it. Film, numbers, whatever. He's been absolutely piss poor. Go look at the statistics, I think QB's have close to a perfect rating when throwing the ball in his direction. So what exactly is it that Cro can do, that would make Bowles keep somebody like Marcus Williams on the bench? How many times did he get beat? Hopkins? With that push off? That's it? How many picks does he have? 2nd in the NFL, he had another one last night despite only playing like what, 5 snaps? How many picks does Cromartie have in 11 starts? Zero? Marcus is a poor tackler why? Because he had a bad game against the Raiders like the rest of the defense? What about Cro? He's proving each week how terrible he is at tackling and he's not fixing it, he hasn't, he won't. It's not gonna change. So what exactly would make you play him over Marcus Williams? Good headcoaches don't make these types of mistakes. Good teams don't play terrible veterans over young playmakers.

Let me just ask you one thing, do you honestly believe that this team is better off with Cro in the starting lineup over Marcus Williams? Do you think Williams would give up 100+ yards and a touchdown per game? Because so far he hasn't. And that's pretty much what Cromartie is averaging per game. I know for sure that Marcus would have performed WAY better and this team definitely would have had more wins if Marcus had been our #2 from game one. You think we're better off with Cromartie?

Williams' tackling has been an issue this year, but I cut him some slack in the Oakland game because he was playing out of position and looked very uncomfortable.

However, he's been very solid in coverage and more effective than Cro overall.
