This is 100% accurate. If Brady doesn't go 32-48, 359 yards and 3 TD's against the Panthers, the Pats lose that game. Hell, the mighty Pats defense couldn't even stop McNabb when he was puking all over the field.
It's not one game, throughout the postseasons of the Brady era the D has let them down much more often than people realize only to be rescued by Brady.
That comment was joking about cherry picking. TD's can be deceiving. Yards are more of an indication of how much of a role the quarterback played in the offensive production, which is why I used it originally.
no it's not, there's not one stat. You need to watch games to get a feel for it to know if a QB is playing well. I can give you a million examples of QBs w/ high yardage #s not playing well. Just go back to our div rd meeting a year ago, Sanchez badly outplayed Brady but Brady threw for over 100 more yds(most in garbage time and on 20 more attempts).
Yes, it is. There are obviously outliers (a few 70 yard bombs might skew the average) but, in general, yards tell the story about how much of the offense ran through the QB. Regarding your example, Brady went 29 for 45 for 299 yards, a TD and an interception against one of the best defenses in the league. Sanchez went 16 of 25 for 194 yards, 3 tds and 0 interceptions against a poor, poor defense. Additionally, Sanchez had a very solid run game setting up his pass. It was a run first offense which complimented his lower skill level. I would say if anything it was a wash, but more probably leaning towards Brady in that game. If you want to be respected, you probably shouldn't say such outlandish crap.
I think that's more Peyton stepping back except for that '06 title game where the D compltely choked. The run game was not great throughout much of that div rd game so I don't buy that. We had the nice LT run after the botched fake punt and the Greene run to seal it but we didn't run it at will on you. Sanchez badly outplayed Brady, his redirection to Edwards got the O going, Brady was confused all day- so much so that trailing by 10 in the 4th they had that 7-8 min drive where they only got a FG. I've never seen him confused like he was that day, he played very poorly only putting up 14 pts in the competitive portion of the game.
Luckily, we've had strong enough team in recent years with multiple dimensions that allow us to win games without completely relying on our quarterback (Colts are doing mighty fine without theirs). All we needed was for Sanchez to not suck as long as the running game and defense did their job. This was usually the case, but Sanchez has gone above and beyond what we ever could have asked for. The regular season is a bit shakier, but he does seem focused come playoff time, which is what matters most. Granted, he didn't throw the ball as much as Brady or Peyton, but what we saw from him impressed all of us. It seems like we have more faith in him this year, so if he gets more opportunities in the postseason, we'll see how we fares.
