Agree. Winters started out badly just like Slauson. People were hating on Slauson forever. Even tho he improved before their eyes. Winters has improved. Fixing RT will go a long way in improving the right side. There's also Johnson, Dozier, and Harrison on the roster that they may feel good about at G. Get a Tackle
Clady-Carpenter-Mangold-Slauson-Breno/anyone. I would sign up for that. Brent sucks, but I like 80% of that line health permitting. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I’d take Slauson back. He was a very productive player for us at the guard position. I’d welcome him back with open arms. We need to do something to upgrade the right side of our line if possible. Hopefully one of our younger lineman steps up.
I was extremely critical of Winters because I saw him get routinely beat on the same exact move time and time again. We've given up on guards too early in the case of both Slauson and Ducasse. Hopefully Winters is the guy we don't give up on and he makes huge strides next season. He has everything you look for in a solid NFL guard, he just needs to improve his feet and center of gravity a lot (which I'd assume is a focus for the offseason. He pass sets and drops back too deep in his set, then gets shrugged to the side when he's too slow to recover back to the inside. It's tough to improve foot speed, but here's to hoping he does it. Tackle is one of the scarier positions on this team. We have no one on the roster that can take over for Clady if he goes down (which sadly seems inevitable at this point). We need Clady to stay healthy and if Qvale takes over for Giacomini like a lot of us are hoping, then the line could surprise some people and keeping around Giacomini as a swing guy wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
Yeah, its not so much that I'm backing Winters, but saying that a good athletic Tackle would be the better fix. They're not athletic on the right side at all. I believe we're looking at Ijalana and Qvale at T...maybe Shell, and Johnson, Dozier, and Harrison inside for depth. Hopefully Giacomini, and Winters are beaten out for the positions. Winters' weaknesses might be less glaring inside if the edge was impoved with an athletic T however. Seems to me tho that picking up a veteran Tackle at some point would be more helpful if given a choice, or resources dictate room for only one guy.
http://www.ganggreennation.com/2016/5/7/11617040/report-matt-slauson-signs-with-chargers He's had a nice career. Struggled initially, but developed nicely and by the end of his first season. Then Tanny low-balled him and he moved on. Duke-asse should have such a career
