I think Wilson is the best pure WR. The reason he’s not my preferred choice for the Jets is that he has a ton of crossover traits with Elijah Moore, and he’s bigger but not really that much bigger, only around 6’. Burks offers a totally different package. He specializes in YAC, contested catches, and he’s built like a tank. He can be a multi tool out of the slot and backfield, and then take over as a true X when Corey Davis moves on. I see a role for him like a Deebo Samuel who has huge upside.
Jason Kelce Creed Humphrey Ryan Jensen Corey Linsley Some others who have been recently but are retired/or declined Alex Mack Rodney Hudson Travis Frederick Before that group you had Nick Mangold Maukice Pouncey Ryan Kalil
It will certainly help to have improved OL and TE play, but the WR room could use a go to guy. Someone who can open up the field for the other weapons. I know the term #1 WR isn't universally liked, but to me, there are some who deserve the label. Evans, Hopkins, Diggs, AB(pre 2019), Chase, and Jefferson come to mind. We need one of those.
Ah PFF rears it’s ugly head once again. Didn’t know you were one of those guys. Can you provide the list please? PFF isn’t a legitimate metric by the way. It’s a bunch of college grads paid $15 an hour tasked to rate whether a player made a good play or not on a -1, 0 or +1 grading scale.
Yes!!! (Or he’s retiring) That doesn’t leave many left. I’m going to put some $$ on the Chiefs tomorrow bc they have a difference maker touching the ball on every down….
You asked for a metric, I gave you one. If their measuring system doesn’t coincide with yours, that’s not my problem. If you want to give some other sources that rank him lower, I’d be happy to take a look.
Its hard to rate a guy in isolation from the guys next to him but I think 95% of fans would agree that the 11 starters below are superior to McGovern. Mitch Morse David Andrews JC Tretter Creed Humphrey Corey Linsley Jason Kelce Josh Myers Matt Henessey Brian Allen Alex Mack Ryan Jensen Once that's agreed on then arguments can start between McGovern and guys like Pocic, Erik McCoy, Garret Bradbury, Tyler Biadasz, Ben Jones and Corey Levin, etc. https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchartpos/OC
He is not slated to be a free agent. He has a contract which is built so that the Eagles can designate him as a Post June 1st release, but it’s not guaranteed they will. There is a good chance they will either add another year or at least hold on to him through the draft. Even if he is designated a post June 1st release he may want to retire. And even if the Jets wanted him, that makes him the answer at Center for what, a season? No need for sarcasm, especially inaccurate sarcasm.
The sarcasm is based on the idea there is such thing as a difference maker C. I don’t believe the sarcasm is inaccurate at all. I laid it in thicker bc the short list of difference makers is getting shorter; I believe that’s pretty accurate as well. At least you didn’t move McGovern to guard (no sarcasm there)
No one is disagreeing that the Patriots and the Browns have rock solid IOLs. We can all agree RG is the weak point and will be addressed via the draft or FA. The question at hand is would McGovern be a solid C or do we need to spend a top 10 pick on his replacement. If JD picks him, I’ll get on board in a heartbeat but I don’t see it happening (in the 1st).
Obviously you don’t know how key the Center is in most of the run plays of a Shanahan outside run scheme. It’s why the Vikings drafted a Center in the 1st round in 2019 under Kevin Stefanski. It’s why The Falcons paid big money to Alex Mack in Free Agency in 2016 with Shanahan, and then Shanahan acquired him again in 2021 with the 49ers. Matt LaFleur walked into Corey Linsley when he joined the Packers in 2019, and then they had to let him go in Free Agency with a really bad cap situation and questions about Rodgers. But they immediately turned around and drafted Josh Myers without missing a beat. The Bengals had drafted a Center in the 1st the year before Zac Taylor got there, but it didn’t work out and they need to fix that position badly. Some of the other teams who run variations already have good Centers, like Tennessee and Atlanta. Not every scheme values every position the same, you should take some time to read up on the one the Jets run.
I’m sorry you had to type so much when a simple “we don’t view McGovern’s abilities the same” seems much more appropriate. I know the scheme… McGovern knows the scheme bc they were running it in Denver when he was there; maybe you should read up a little more.
Man, I really don’t want to spend time talking to someone who feels the need to bring sarcasm and condescension to a fan message board. I never said McGovern doesn’t know the scheme. If you don’t chill out than this will be my last reply to you. McGovern was in Denver for 4 years. Rookie year was a Kubiak offense, but he didn’t play. 2nd and 3rd year he had 2 more OC’s, with different schemes and he played primarily RG and then around 5 games at C due to injury. It wasn’t until his 4th year and his 4th OC that he returned to a similar scheme under Scangarello, and played a full season at C for the first time. McGovern is just a mediocre Center, he wasn’t even the best paid Center who hit free agency that year. He was 3rd behind Morse and Paradis. You can do worse but I’d prefer to do much better.
Highly praised OL/DL analyst Brandon Thorne’s All Pro 1st Team: Ryan Jensen PFF Rank… 12th, behind Tyler Shatley, Austin Reiter, Trey Hopkins, Connor McGovern… It’s not a reliable source.
