What a ridiculous comment by Darling. Look at the numbers, Ron - Mota and Schoeneweis have been horrible all year, Joe Smith was terrible in his last month, and Wagner was awful in August. The problem isn't perception - it's performance. Speaking of performance, Sosa does a great job.
Wow, Keith just articulated one of the most basic sabermetrics principals - strikeouts are worse than other outs because if you hit the ball you have a chance to get a base hit. It's most likely Willie isnt paying attention. THis has happened a few times this year where he totally misses a chance to do something like this. Remember when something like this happened earlier in the year and where we had to pinch-hit Glavine in the 9th inning of a game. I'm pretty sure Willie didnt know what was going on then either.
