I have that same zen state, mostly precipitated by the fact that I resigned myself months ago that the Mets simply aren't that good of a team this year. fact is, despite their record, the Mets haven't been good all year, and have gotten away with playing bad baseball because they have too many good players to lose more than they win. but the great thing about baseball is that you can't fake your way through a season, and at the end of the year the good win and the pretenders fall off. and that is the problem, the Mets aren't a good team, despite how good their players are, and they are showing it.
I can top that. my father and brother are Yanks and Giants fans, so to be different, when I got into sports, I picked the Mets and Jets. I guess being contrary has come back to haunt me. and to add gasoline to the fire, I chose UCLA over USC for college. I am certain I was born to suffer.
It's hard for me to realize that we might not actually make it. I think I'm like the players, I know we're in trouble, but it's hard for me to actually think like that
I could have gone to USC, but stayed home and went to Seton Hall. I graduated from SHU (I transferred to WVU after my sophomore year and then transferred back to SHU; SHU has no football team, hence my love for WVU football).
I chose UCLA for the $40,000 a year difference in tuition from USC. although, getting into UCLA is a pretty difficult accomplishment, so it wasn't as if I just settled on it cuz I was broke. Willie and Karl Dorrel are so boring and stupid you could actually switch them with another and nobody would know the difference on the sideline and the dugout. it isn't as if making clueless decisions because they don't know the game would tip anyone off.
You realize, I'm sure, that the statement "the Mets aren't a good team, despite how good their players are" is a ringing indictment of one person in particular. That is particularly true when you realize that their starting pitching has been much better than expected for most of the season. The performance the last five games is so ludicrously embarassing that it is, indeed, hard to comprehend. You would think that they would win one of these games just by dumb luck, yet that's just not happening. Phils and Cards still 3-3 going to the bottom of the 8th. Edit: I would also like to mention that way back in April I said that all of the games count whether in April or September when the Mets gave away a game or three. Any Met fan who ever says anything like "it's too early in the season to worry about giving away a game" ever again should turn in their blue and orange pom poms.
Phils and Cards going to extra innings. Interesting how Manuel pulled Hamels after only 54 pitches when he gave up 3 runs in 3 innings. See, that's how someone who doesn't have his head up his rear end manages when it's crunch time. I still find it outrageous how Acta managed to try to win this game, unlike Randolph.
absolutely. and it was my specific intent. Managers don't make guys play better, so I can't blame Willie for how bad the bullpen has been, that is Minaya's fault for assembling this bunch. but Willie has made bad decision after bad decision in using the bullpen and managing the pitching staff, and that is what a Manager is judged by -- the decisions he makes. and Willie is the absolute worst decision maker in baseball. as painful as it is to watch a season with so much promise just dissolve in front of us, I have thought the only thing that would cost Willie his job would be a flame out of epic proportions, not simply a loss in the Wild Card series, NLCS, or WS. well, blowing the division, even if they make the playoffs would qualify, especially if they lose the division and then lose in the Wild Card round. I don't see this team winning the WS this year anway, so if they aren't, I hope they lose in a manner that costs Willie his job.
By pitching horribly and blowing 4-0 and 7-3 leads - 11 hits and 2 walks in 4 1/3 innings, capped off by a 3-run HR by Belliard.
