My concern now is that Omar might try to go into win-now mode to save his job, thus sacrificing what little remains of the farm to win.
If the Wilpon's weren't gutless idiots they would both be gone. Seems like a good trap to me. "Tell us if you think Willie should be fired or kept...it's your decision" "Well...past 3 years blah blah blah I think we should keep him" "Ok Omar, pack up your shit you're joining him on the unemployment line"
That's fantastic. I'm in utter denial, but Omar hasn't met with ownership yet. The source could be misdirection. Again, that' the denial speaking. The main guy who can't be back with Willie is Lo Duca, who clearly has dirty pictures of Willie or something. He will overuse him. Best case scenario, a whole slew of guys leave, Omar makes the right moves, and the Mets contend again next year. But I'm not sure that happens.
I've officially lost all faith in the Mets organization from top to bottom. This is the worst possible thing they could've done. Not only do we have to suffer through another year of that imbecile in the dugout but ownership has basically told Minaya "Get to the World Series or you're gone". I'm of the opinion that there's nothing more dangerous then a desperate GM and the only things these threats are going to accomplish are to make sure that the Mets younger players are once again repressed in favor of "veterans" and an idiotic deadline deal that mortgages the teams future.
Where did you read this ultimatum? I'm interested. I think we should wait to see an idiotic deal before we react to one. The off-season hasn't even started yet, and it shouldn't be forgotten that the Mets have plenty of talent already, they just need to refill their bullpen and acquire a stud starter (those are the main things, anyway). Much easier said than done, yes, but let's just wait and see.
Wow, as much as I like Randolph and think eventually he will be a very good manager somewhere. I believe the right decision after what just happened would have been to let him go
Omar is stumbling, stuttering and bumbling his way through his WFAN appearance after some early dick waving about how he didn't have to go to management to keep Willie and that it was his decision.
Wow, Dog really is destroying him. Only thing I heard that I like was Omar defending Milledge and Reyes from the ridiculous "waking the Marlins up" accusations that have been making the rounds lately.
Unable to listen...anyone want to summerize when it's over? Fun Fact: 80% of the ESPN voters think Omar and the Wilbons are right in keeping Willie. Who knew?
I don't think you're taking into account that 80% of ESPN voters hate the Mets. Omar really didn't say anything. He did give a small vote of confidence to Rickey, I guess, saying he was brought in to help the Mets steal bases and Reyes and the Mets lead the league in that category. Wouldn't comment on Peterson saying they "were going to evaluate everyone". Wouldn't comment on Glavine. Denied reports that his assistant GM and Willie hate each other. 90% of what he said was "we'll have to evaulate...you know what I'm saying?"
So nothing unexpected. Fine. I'll let him evaluate, and then I'll evaluate. As for the ESPN voters hating the Mets, it was the same percentage in the state of New York. Granted, all the Yankee fans on this board think he should stay, but that does say something.
I'm really glad that I was teaching two classes and then had a pile of students outside my door for office hours so I couldn't hear this bullshit. This is a very bad day for the Mets, boys and girls.
Yeah, I guess it says that H.L. Mencken was right ("Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.").
Indeed, he was. I just don't understand the pro-Willie spin: That all the players independently failed to play up to their potential, and they should receive the blame. How does that not lead to the manager? And how come no one mentions his tactical errors? Ugh. I hate baseball.
