If we cant get Portis or Lynch then i wouldnt mind getting Bush in the 2nd but i really want McFadden in 08 to be our rb so if we dont get a rb in 07 i wont really be mad if there is a legitimate chance we can get McFadden if we cant we might as well get one this year.
OK, lets clear some things up. -Bush is easily 6 ft 1, im guessing hes 6 ft 2 at the shortest. -Blalock will be a first rd pick, if not he will definitely not fall to our Second 2nd rd pick
He isnt a starter so u cant go that far and say he's really proven, i dont wanna waste a pick on Turner his only good year has been this year and it wasnt that good.
If we're going to wait then why not look at Raymell Rice too? (before anyone mentions it: yes, I do have a hard on for Rutgers RBs)
I just have this feeling that we won't be looking for a RB come draft time because we would have already gotten our franchise back..
Why would his height be a risk? Brandon Jacobs seems to be doing well enough in the NFL and he's three inches taller than Bush.
McGahee scenario: he goes late first or early second. The guy was one of the top 3 tailbacks in college football and considered to be a can't miss top 10 pick before he got hurt. He broke a bone, which is an injury that is usually low or no chance to recur (when was the last time you heard about a guy breaking the same limb twice in his career?) If he gets to the Jets on the first second round pick they will jump all over him rubbing their hands gleefully. Personally I think he's 50/50 at best to make it to that spot. There are a half dozen teams picking in the late first round who will see him as a potential blue-chipper and a chance to get top 10 talent at lower money and after a very good season.
some people think that being tall as a RB is bad because their center of gravity is too high and they can be easily tackled and hurt. however, it's not like bush doesn't know this about himself and i am sure he will use his size as an advantage. im sure the RBs coach will teach him how to keep his pads low so he doesn't leave himself open to big hits. he is essentially deuce mccalister II, with size, power, speed, and a nose for the endzone. just look at his 2005 stats, he is ridiculous and if we can get him with the 37th overall pick, that would be incredible value for someone with his potential.
You people are nuts. HE WILL NOT MAKE IT TO 37! We will have to use our first round pick and I hope he does. Anyone that says he isn't worth it hasn't watched the guy play.
I hope we have our RB by that time too...Turner seems like the perfect fit for the Jets at this time. Big, strong, fast, runs hard and seems intelligent from the times I have heard him speak in press conferences. All of the comparisons to Lamont Jordan are ridiculous. The ONE reason Lamont has struggled since being traded to Oakland is because of their horrendous Oline. I hope we trade a second round pick to the Chargers and get a Back who can carry the full load.
Trading a pick for Turner and using a pick for a rookie seem like the same thing to me. Both are risky and in both cases you are dealing with the unknown. Turner looks great, but as someone pointed out already, nobody knows if he will hold up for 250-300 carries because he hasn't done it yet. Same with any rookie you draft. Turner might be less of a risk because of his track record as a backup, but he has not been an every down back. How is his blocking, does he pick up blitzes? I haven't seen the Chargers enough to know that. Also, I hope we don't trade for Portis. I think he's going to be dinged up (or worse) for the rest of his career. It seems to me that Washington used him the wrong way, pounding him between the tackles, and I think he will start to break down now.
maybe you should watch him play. he had a great season in 05 and he was even more impressive in 06. i dont need to see more out of this kid. he's already proven in my book. if you prefer a college RB who broke his leg, who hasnt played a down since 05 over a guy like Turner then good luck.
I think Chargers might hold onto Turner unless they get a first round pick, but people who say he has only had 1 good year thats not true hes been good for at least the past 2 years or so picking up 100 yard games when ever LT cant play. The only thing you could possibly question him about is his durability which shouldnt be a problem cuase he is a pretty big guy. Also alot of people forget were gonna have to sign this guy once we get him so its not quite over once we trade for him hopefully he doesnt want to much. Money is the only advantage of picking up a back in the 2nd round.
turner was a workhorse in college and set all kinds of school and ncaa records. he IS reliable. he has great hands, he's a great kick returner. can he block? i dont know. he doesnt have to. leon washington would be our 3rd down back and that kid is one of the best blockers i've seen in the nfl. he's damn good at picking up blitzes
Michael Bush is still said to be walking with a limp and slow, and on ESPN the say he hasn't even started to run again after he broke his foot the first game of the season. Of course he will be a different Michael Bush come Draft Day then he is now, but I'm sure we could get someone else who is healthy in the draft.
I hear you about Washington, and I didn't know about Turner's college record. I know he missed three games this year with a hamstring injury, which concerns me a bit, as those can become chronic. I disagree about the blocking, though. On those play-action fakes that Pennington lives off of, you need the RB to be able to pick up blitzes/help out the OL sometimes. Curtis Martin was excellent at that. I like Turner a lot, and he would look great in green. But he's not worth a first and a third if the Chargers tender him that high, and maybe not even just a first round pick.
Look at what he did in college: And no, he's not worth a 1st and 3rd round pick. The Chargers could trade him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick if they want to and i think thats what they are looking for. They HAVE to trade him because otherwise they wont get nothing for Turner.
You are right, his college record is impressive. If they can get him for either of our second rounder picks (obviously the giving them the lower pick would be better), I would do that. We just have to wait and see how they tender him.
Over 6' and 240 lbs. That's some damn good size for a RB. He had over 140 yds in the first half of the game that he broke his leg in. If he's healthy, he'll be tough to pass up and may not even be there by the time we pick.
