I don’t think it’s a dig, I think he’s that fucking oblivious to realize the other side of the words that come out of his mouth. I think he’s that stupid, he’s demonstrated how stupid he is as a football team owner time and again, believe him already. He’s an absolute moron of epic proportions. He has no clue what to do or say as an owner.
Your reading comprehension skills are extremely lacking. You are a liar - I never said hiring hiring Tannenbaum and his organization was a good idea. One more time, for you and anyone else who cannot understand - I have never defended Woody Johnson in his hiring practices. I'm sure that a bright guy like you would find it very easy to cite some of those alleged times I defended him. You can't - so find some other nonsense to blather about. I don't care who you would hire - you don't come with a highly regarded resume; you were complaining about the hiring process and I asked numerous times how you would change that. Crickets! Why is that so hard for you to understand? Above you can see that @BrowningNagle has suggested first hiring an executive to run the football operations who would presumably be the point man for the kind of positions we are talking about here. That's nothing new here. In fact it's been repeated so often over the years that it's hardly mentioned any longer because people have about given up on it ever happening. That doesn't mean it's a bad idea; it's not at all and would put the football direction in the hands of football people rather than rich guys and their accountants who apparently just pat each other on their lame backs. While you're hunting through the archives here to find all those alleged defenses I have made of the Johnsons maybe you'll come across the dozens of times I endorsed, or even proposed, a VP of Football Operations or something of similar nomenclature. You have proposed nothing. Take your "karma" and shove it!
Look, here on TGG we have probably hundreds of thousands of posts that all point to Woody Johnson as a buffoon, at best. This insight comes from people who have probably never met him or shared a word with him unless they inadvertently bumped into him when he used to wander around the parking lot before games. Do you really think that professional football people having dinner with him this week are going to pay the slightest bit of attention to anything he has to say about players, coaches and leather helmets or their trade value? I wish the kid was at the league meeting in his place - with his yap shut and his ears open!
Sad part is we have to hope that somehow Brick is an upgrade to Woody…and yes in saying that I realize that being an upgrade to Woody is a VERY low bar, but remember when Woody was in the UK and we had his dumb and dumber brother Chris running the show, we ended up with Gase. This is a very consistently stupid family we are talking about here, and if I had to guess, I’d say Brick “Madden Rating” Johnson is going to be just as clueless and stupid as his dumbass father.
I guess the main hope with Brick is that he's seen firsthand what a disaster his dad has been and seeks to run the team as differently as possible as a result. I legitimately can't fathom how he could be worse than Woody. Woody is like an incompetent owner out of central casting.
I don’t think brick will ever fully own the team. As his health deteriorates and the Epstein stuff materializes stronger, woody Johnson will sell off pieces of the Jets. Before his death he will own a small majority but it will be split up when he dies and brick will be a minority owner only
Sadly this is the likely outcome. But we have hope, because ... Woody Johnson actually doesn't have that much money outside of his Jets ownership, I believe. He can't really take it to his grave; he will have to sell the team.
I agree, Woody is not selling the team, and Brick may be our only hope. Woody is an old dog, and you can't teach him new tricks. Maybe Brick is a bit more open minded, you never know. We haven't made play-offs in 15 years and have 0 wins on the season. Cannot get much worse as we are already by far the worst professional team in the country. I frankly don't get the hate for Brick. Yes, he gave a game ball to GW one day when he was 17 years old, but come on, did you see that Michael Jordan catch GW made in that game? Brick was right on that one! And the Madden thing, we may joke about it, but I in all seriousness, am not buying it, because JD made too many moves for the players with low Madden ratings. And if he did go by Madden ratings, he would actually do better! The bottom line, we really know nothing about Brick, but we do know there is no hope for Woody. For Brick, maybe there still is...
Bloomberg has him 10.8billion (#308 on their Billionaires Index), he has a stake in that soccer team too. I'm gonna guess this only covers largest properties and not, say, mansions everywhere and inherited assets and unreported wealth in offshore accounts.
Jesus, it's hard sometimes to fathom the amount of money people have lol. 10bill doesn't even get you in the top 100, sheesh.
Because he can't take the team to his grave he will have to sell? And the money he can take to his grave? The guy is loaded with billions. He is not selling, it's just wishful thinking. But what he can do is absorb Glenn's contract and fire him after one year and hire another coach. That will not make a dent in his fortune.
I'm sorry but NO ONE deserves that much money. Period. When you have that much coin on you, you've done some evil shit to a fuck-ton of people. That is FACT.
According to Forbes: "A 2017 government ethics disclosure indicated that Johnson has assets of at least $1.7 billion outside of the Jets." You may be right - If I was down to my last $1,700,000,000 eight years ago, I'd probably be worrying about the food stamps cutting out tomorrow if the government shutdown doesn't end fast. SMH.
Or, you were simply born uber wealthy and it doesn't mean anything at all whether you were Mother Theresa or Attila the Hun. I'm surprise you didn't add "literally" to your "FACT".
These aren't numbers that I (or maybe even you, I don't know) really comprehend. But these people live in a different world. Maybe he bought a mansion on some leverage, his stake in something else dropped by 5%, his investment bank suggests that they can grow his money better elsewhere. Or maybe he has to split his inheritance between two or three heirs and the Jets ownership is more than 1/3rd of his net worth, or his heirs will get into a fight about it... who knows Mark Cuban sold his stake and he's pretty rich too. The Celtics owners sold last year. Who knows why these things happen.
Of course it's wishful thinking. We are Jets fans, that's all we have To be more precise, I would say it is more likely that he will sell the team rather than having Brick just inherit it. It's likely too big a nut in his inheritance to easily subdivide. Not saying he will sell now. Oh, this is an easy one. That ain't happening. These guys didn't get rich or stay rich by wasting money. They are notoriously more careful with their cash. They view this as a business, and aren't going to throw money at it like a fan. The only way this makes sense is if a) they think this will be better for Jets revenue AND b) they can make up the money some other way (for example, by spending slightly less on free agents next year, or handing out expired peanuts at the game, or something like that.). He ain't doing this out of goodwill.
While I am not personally familiar with these kinds of numbers, comprehending them is not a problem for me. Inane hypotheticals notwithstanding, Mr. Johnson is not, and will not be, in a position where he has to sell the team.
Yeah, but what this means is that more than 60% of his net worth is tied up in the Jets. He's not worried about not eating, but hypothetically if he had to split his assets due to divorce or inheritance planning, there could be situations where he decides to sell. Not forced to sell, but these are points where it becomes easier I believe.
