Darnell Mooney with the Bears, 6 receptions for 74 yards and 1 TD. Golden Gandy has done nothing with the Redskins and he was the other really big prospect.
It's that 'hidden yardage' (not the same as the dreaded hidden production). A really great punter does make a difference, so if we have a great one and he stays with us for 15 years, then that's a good thing. It iOS not an irrelevant position.
Gabriel Davis looks pretty good. 8 catches/129 yards/2 touchdowns We took Perine 8 picks ahead of him. We also traded down from 48 in the 2nd where we could've taken Chase Claypool and Van Jefferson, to take Mims. I'm not going to overreact, but I wasn't a huge Mims fan out of college - skinny frame and a burner in a conference with the worst defensive backs (outside of TCU) you'll ever see. Mims ran by them all year (similar to Josh Doctson, Sterling Shepard, Marquise Brown, Christian Kirk, James Washington, Keke Course, etc.). Let's hope he becomes a good pro and it's premature to judge him.
I'm getting increasingly frustrated with this as well. Can we just draft an inside linebacker in the 3rd or a safety in the 5th or a mid round runningback that immediately comes in and plays and is a plug and play starter for 4 years? I don't know how the hell it transcends coaches either but it seems like the Jets have a strong unwillingness to play it's rookie players. Sometimes you gotta just toss the fucking guys in there. The 2017 Jets were toast after the bye week. Can we put ArDarius Stewart and Chad Hansen on the field? There are countless other examples of this that we've done over the years. Yeah the whole draft class is hurt right now but man. We need to start finding starters in the mid rounds that can play without needing three years of development. That's how you rebuild a team. We don't need All-Pro's. We need starters.
they haven't been good for this season. were all banking on rookies being good for us the next 2 years because of our picks and the lack of talent but we haven't had any contributions yet and yes it was because of injuries but still. what happens next year when 4 of our top 5 picks pull hammys before opening day?
outside of the top 4 drafted (ruggs, jeudy, jefferson, lamb) nobody is standing out yet and ruggs got hurt early. jefferson and lamb look great though and jeudy does too but his numbers aren't there due to poor QB play
Chase Claypool, Laviska Shenault, Michael Pittman (now hurt), Tee Higgins, Bryan Edwards (now hurt) and Gabriel Davis are all solid contributors already. So while we shouldn't write off Mims there are plenty of rookie receivers from this class playing well.
Its bigger than instant impact. Its upgrading the talent of the overall unit & giving Sam as well as the whole org weapons to grow w for the long term. Most WRs take at least a yr to develop,of course in the Jets case the talent level at the position is so bad any rookie w above average talent w potential to get better moves to the top of the depth chart
