BAH! yOU NAILED IT. Barcs still believes that old goat he got for xmas when he was little is a unicorn
Neither one of those surprise me in the least, both were kind of obvious imo. But yeah from the excerpt that got published about the Jets' losses to the Pats and Broncos that year I'm sure there was some good stuff (and stuff I might not want to read).
http://www.mensjournal.com/magazine/how-a-football-team-falls-apart-20131018 This is the excerpt I referenced in my prior post
I may very well pick this book up, based upon that excerpt---thanks for pointing it out. I'm usually leery of sports books, but this one seems better than the ones I usually get stuck with. I'd also like to have a larger copy of "Ryan Crosses the Delaware".
I finished this book. I found it incredibly boring. Lot of insight, but not the kind of ino that was entertaining. IMO. If you have aspiration so be an nfl coach. Great book. If your a fan.. Boring
I would have wanted more insight into desicions that were made and not made. I'm sure the writer did an admirable job and was true to his word when it came to off the record information. Being informative you right and was in depth look into the 20 hour days of the coaching staff and how much work they all do. You hear these coaches work around the clock 7 days a week. I thought they worked allot and that was an exaggeration. But I learned it wasn't. 10 months out of the year you would be hard pressed to find any occupation comes close to there hours.
I'm enjoying the book so far. Right now it looks like we're going to the playoffs. Not sure anyone can cover Plax in the red zone.
Hey, when the primary purpose of the book is to make money, it's only logical to assume that the truth will be exaggerated and parts will be added for entertainment purposes. I never suggested the entire thing was a fabrication, but someone would have to be pretty naive to think it's 100% accurate. That's why I posed the question. Even if the book praised the organization, the question would still be valid.
Better hurry and buy one today, the first printing is almost sold out. Who would have thought there were 72 people out there who wanted a chronicle of the Jets' 2011 season?
I read and finished the book yesterday. What I find interesting was one of Ryan's flaws as a head coach was he had too much respect and love for his coaching staff and players, and he always gave them free reign. It hurt him with Schotty and you wonder if the same thing is happening with MM and Smith.. Recommend the book for all Jet fans, I thought it was humourous and will make me more of a fan now as I have a better understanding of who these guys are as players and coaches. Particularly Ryan, DT, Kotwica, Wilkerson and Cromartie.
Loved the chapter where Rex went after Shotty in the cafeteria. Players had to pull Rex off Shotty after Rex had him on the floor punching him in the head. /the missing chapter
Read half of it this afternoon. It's a good book and a very interesting read, but I wish he went into a little more detail; more substance and less fluff. A lot of what I've read so far (from offseason to training camp) has been backgrounds on the coaches and players. My two biggest takeaways so far are: -Rex is extremely respected by his peers but almost to a fault as he is often too loyal and too nice (nothing really new here, as we've read this before, but I think the book points out a few interesting cases that I was unaware of, one including a coach Weeks). -There was a really good section on the draft how scouts were mortified that Rex was in Tanny's ear about drafting McKnight just to appease Sanchez. Every scout (especially Clinkscales) thought he was an undrafted player and they wanted Bellore (who we ended up getting). Also a lot of good minor tidbits such as: -Players trashing Mangini (Revis has a couple quotes in there) -Players and coaches in absolute awe how good Revis was in practice and on the field -The team really wanted Titus Young and didn't think his off the field problems would be an issue -Rex was absolutely in love with JJ Watt -They were in love with Wilkerson even when he admitted to them he took plays off -I think their first choice in the draft was Jimmy Smith, the CB who was drafted by the Ravens
