I think Garoppolo is different from all the others, and he would be a very good QB for us. Which is why unlike the others the Pats aren't letting him go.

Yeah I tend to not include him in that grouping. He threw an absurd amount of touchdowns and had so much success in college.

Matt Cassel was the other career backup I was thinking of, but slipped my mind.

Not a fan of trading for another teams trash that they hype up simply because they were a teams backup for a while. Ryan Mallett comes to mind as well.

I like your thinking. But the Jimmy G part has me worried. Will he be the guy or will he be another Matt Cassell? Barkley, Powell and McGuire would ground and pound defenses all year.

If anything it should be McCown, Petty and drafted QB. The Hack experiment is over.

Lets see if Mac admits his mistake and just moves on from him. I guess in theory he's not really hurting anyone by coming to camp and playing a couple of preseason games before final cuts.

I have a feeling that almost without a doubt that when he's cut, New England will pick him up. Even if not for anything more than to flip the bird at us and try to soak in what he knows of the playbook next season. He does afterall supposedly have a great football IQ right?

Yeah I can see that happening. But as far as Hack intellect I'm not seeing anything from this guy. If he was even a little bit good he would have started. He can't beat out McCown who couldn't win anywhere.

Or even Petty for the backup role.

Hard pressed to think Pats would deal Garapolo to the Jets if they really think he's the real deal. Also, Pats may want to sign him long term if they think he's the heir apparent to Brady.

It is going to be very interesting seeing how the Pats handle the Jimmy G situation. Would they really franchise him and let him sit behind Brady for 2 more years? I find that hard to believe which leads me to believe he will end up going to highest bidder.

I do not think the Jets should be the next team to make the mistake of paying a back up QB franchise QB money. Sit tight and hopefully someone like Falk is available in the 10-15 range.

It will be so sad and pathetic watching the Giants and dolphins get their franchise quarterbacks meanwhile the jets re-sign mccown and draft a DE. It's happening

I completely agree..I'm just going off the fact that Petty really wasn't given a chance in training camp and Hack was taken with a 2nd round pick..I thought Petty should have just started the season.

He would be making close to 10 mil more than Brady too...would be roster mismanagement at its finest IMO. Think they'll have to work out a contract with him, or trade him off for some assets. They won't let him walk for free that's for sure

I wanted Jimmie G here years ago but that putz Idzik blew it

No one on this board liked him though

Now I think he can be a fourth option for us (if Pats willing)after a draft trade up or losing games to get the pick

I don't think Garappolo will become a free agent. I think this is Brady's last year in NE and they will spent all their money holding onto Garappolo.
Brady retires most likely or outside chance he ends up in San Fran playing for his team.

The Jets next quarterback is still in college

They have to break this cycle of paying over the hill vets. When they do this, it basically sets the team back 2-3 years - do some research - pick the best qb available to you in the draft and use what you got until they're reading to go.

Ron Wolf principle behind drafting QBs in middle rounds, diamond in the rough or develope them so you can trade them and acquire more draft picks.

Knowing that, unless I'm getting Brady or Wilson, I'm not trading any of my picks for another teams backup QB and helping them draftwise.

Keep your picks and use them to build your team.

I highly doubt Falk goes in the top 15
