    Yep.

We have had excellent SS players for a while. We need a true centerfielder that can also support the run when necessary.

I can't remember having one for a while. You can make an argument for Leonhard, and even Rhodes, but neither had the all-around game that you need to lock down the FS position.

To be fair to Jarrett, the Eagles' defensive coaching staff was terrible so with some good coaching his talent could blossom. And watching him play in college, I can cosign what you said about his play in college

Hopefully Rex & Co. could get the best out of him.

Kerry Rhodes is still a free agent, I don't see how he's not better than what we have, and it seems like he could be had reasonably. Anyone tell me why that's a bad idea?

They are trying to avoid signing older players. I'm guessing that they like the 3 guys competing for the job. I know that they signed Dawan and he's old, but that's where Rex's dislikes for Rhodes come in I guess.

Have the Jets EVER had a really good FS? Like Darrol Ray maybe? I know I'm just forgetting someone.

Sorry for getting off the subject, but was Erik McMillan a good player or not? I know he had a lot of picks and two pro bowl selections, but was that kind of lucky? Because he also got cut by half the league at age 28, and I think he was still healthy. I could be wrong about his health though.

Have some faith. HAYDEN SMITH is a world class athlete. If he comes on and steps up to the next level he can be something at TE. Cumberland is stepping up! Reuland catches well and runs decently re short and intermediate routes. He blocks very well too. We have two kids we signed as UDFA that played well in college. Don't give up so quickly.

At SS we have ALLEN and MILES ready to duke it out! D. Landry is no slouch! Allen is very talented. at FS BUSH can be the one! Plus the first game is a long time away. We could always pick up a talented guy cut during the numbers game from another team.

wrong! Ask Thurmon. They nearly had a fight on the sidelines. Do not want a non aggressive, non tackler on our team! Rhodes was a cancer on our team.

Didn't Ronnie Lott play FS when he was with the Jets?

Well if you really turn the wheel of time back there was Bill Baird, all time Jets interception leader with 34 and If I recall he primarily filled the free safety position.

McMillian was a hit or miss Safety, he made a lot of big plays but he was a gambler who got burnt a lot too because he was going for the ball, he also wasn't a real good tackler. He was a hell of a ballhawk, but part of the reason was he gambled so often.

    Just give Miles the spot.
Regardless of what the message sent to Bush and Allen would be.
Miles will blow people up even more than Dirty Thirty did.

I like the positive attitude, but just because you put exclamation points at the end of sentences, doesn't mean others will get excited.

Hayden Smith has one -- yes 1 -- career catch.

    Cumberland is a JAG.

    Reuland stinks.

Allen, Bush, and Miles have little to no experience.

The TE and S positions are looking pretty terrible right now and weren't really addressed in the off-season, with the exception of Landry.

How many catches did Cecil Shorts have going into last year?
How experienced was Colin Kaepernick going into the year?

    Exactly.

Are you really comparing Colin Kapernick to Hayden Smith?

It didn't read like a comparison to me. I took away from it that some of these kids with no experience have a lot of talent and once the mental develops they can really shine if given the opportunity.

I think if Hayden can get the mental aspect down, he could be a stud at TE if given a legitimate chance.

I think Reuland, Cumberland, and Hayden Smith would be a pretty amazing TE group....on a DII team. That's a little mean though because although Reuland and Cumberland are guaranteed to be worthless, Hayden Smith could still turn out to be an impact player about one times in a hundred.

On the other hand the day 3 safeties showed some life as rookies but it's still asking too much for either Bush or Allen to be a competent starter. At least they were actually drafted though which makes them a little bit less of a pipe dream than the TE's.

PS Imo... but yeah he's in the mix along with the guys mentioned above.
I can see Allen playing more or an Eric Smith type role... stout on ST, comes in as the 3rd S.
