I agree that the standard is piss poor & it makes my blood boil too. But a total rebuild is what this team has needed for a very long time. At least they're being somewhat transparent about those intentions in which case what type of standard for winning can they really set? There's a very good chance the team is just as young next year, significantly more talented but due to the lack of experience still only wins 5-7 games. 2018 we better damn well see improvement on the football field. That means physically imposing their will, making explosive plays, minimizing mistakes & finishing ball games. 2019 is hopefully a near finished product & playoffs should 100% be mandated.Or else.
That's fair, and realistic. Whatever some clueless millennial intern or whatever looking for clicks on some rag has to say, now, or along the way, I care not.
Don't mean to sound like a jerk, but why dont you ask Jack Del Rio? All Chris had to say was something to the effect "We expect to be in the playoffs next year. That's our goal next year and it will be our goal every year going forward. If we don't make the playoffs in 2018 we will not have had a successful season." That doesn't put you in a box. It doesn't guarantee that Bowles will be fired if the Jets don't make the playoffs in 2018. However, it gives a clear indication that the Jets have high expectations (at least publicly). I realize that it's just words, but words do matter in how you are perceived.
are you new to the jackals that call themselves the jets beat writers? man, they would have a field day cutting and chopping and twisting that shit up. nah, cj gave them nothing and its really the best thing to give them
Well admittedly I don't read the NY papers every day. I usually read most articles once they are posted or linked here or on other forums. Saying that playoffs are the goal is different from playoffs or bust. It doesn't mean that Bowles will be fired if the Jets don't make the playoffs in 2018. However, I think it's important to let the fans, coaches, and players know that the team has specific goals. If the leadership of the Jets can't adeptly defend that the playoffs are a goal then that speaks volumes.
I'ts much ado about nothing. These articles are click bait manipulations by the media. If he said the opposite the media gets their shitstorm. How many times have we seen the jackals try to trap these guys. Sheldon was meat to them. When Bowles or Mac say they're trying to win a championship it's bullshit tho. Funny how that works, right? He was trying protect them. Not threaten them thu the fuckn media with the likes of the pos that cover them. Like they're not trying win. Whether you like it, or them, or not it doesn't matter. It's what it is.
Imagine if the Johnstons did not inherit billions and they had some business that they depended upon to survive would they DARE to say "let's do what we can ..but no mandate for scoring a profit!?" ^^^^^^^^^INSULTING AND CONDESCENDING STATEMENT...HAPPY NEW YEAR LOWLY PUTZes WE DO WHAT WE WANT They can only get away with that sh*t with the suffering Jets Fanbase If someone offered me Season Tickets for 10 bucks I would turn it down
I don't mind a guy not getting boxed in a corner..but listening to his interview he sounds genuine in saying he thinks Bowles is a great coach and he knew early in the season he was getting an extension..that's just scary.
Outside of missing out on the playoffs via a tiebreaker scenario, the mandate behind the scenes BETTER be playoffs or bust. If we go 6-10 or 7-9 and this regime is brought back, I have no idea how crazy I and I would hope the majority of the fan base, would react.
I don’t see it that cut and dry today. What on the team has changed in the last 3 days that a playoff or bust mandate should be made, public or private? It’s a very fluid situation and moves can be made that make this a playoff or bust team in 2018 and moves can be made where that may be a year off. I think that’s why the extensions went to 2020. Keeps mac n Bowles from going the quick fix at all costs route.
Bowles had the team playing hard with our horrendous roster. Personally I like Bowles he is doing the right thing.
They should do all their reacting now...tear up those tickets and don't buy anything J and J ...sorry I've had it here
You cannot keep a regime around for 4 years if they haven't made the postseason. Why does this regime get two chances to build a roster? Why do they get so much time? What good have they done? Because they surpassed Preseason expectations by the "experts" of 0-2 wins and won 5? Big deal. Win 9 plus games or change regimes. If this regime goes 5-11 again, there will be no reason to see them back here in 2019.
He couldn't get the redskins with better offensive talent to the playoffs, what makes you think hes gonna do that here? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I think a playoff mandate is short sighted. Instead of developing talent, coaches will be coaching for their jobs and that means avoiding getting young players valuable play time. We seen a lot of young guys develop this season, something the jets havent done for years. The organization needs to take their time and do it right, trying to rush it for the sake of padding a win total is a bad idea. While i do inevitably think this team will be better this season, it needs to happen naturally. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
In what world is Josh Docston, Jamison Crowder, Terrelle Pryor, and a washed up 33 year old Vernon Davis is better than Anderson, Kearse, and ASJ? We're also getting Enunwa back next season. They were down to their 3rd or 4th RB as well.
Vernon davis has had a resurgence, youre confusing some things. First they dont have big time recievers, they have a bunch of good recievers. So nobody is getting 1000 yards, theyll have like 6 guys with 500 yrds If cousins was so good, why wont Washington, a team known to spend lavishly on qbs, sign him long term? Hes not that good. He is beyond overrated. Youd be sick of him before the end of the year. Most Redskins fans do not share the same love of him as this board seems to. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
And cycled through 12 different o line man. Cousins was the difference between them going 7-9 and getting a top 3 pick
I agree wholeheartedly. Let me posit a potential built-in excuse for 6-10 or 7-9. We were 5-11 with McCown playing at an almost Pro Bowl level. What if they draft a quarterback, or even sign Cousins or another veteran like Foles, or trade for Smith? What if our offensive coordinator leaves for Oakland? The excuse will be that the new QB had to learn a new offense. That there was progress; but it was unrealistic to expect Bowles to get a team to the playoffs with a rookie, or new, quarterback learning a new offense under a first-year coordinator.
