I agree. We're not going to make a splash at free agency. I'm fine with taking the comp picks, signing some mediocre guys to fill out spots, let some contracts expire or get to a space where they are better cap wise to cut (i.e. Sanchez next year) and take this year as a rebuilding year. If we're really terrible and get a top pick and a QB that can step in and help right away then maybe you try to add something around him through free agency. Otherwise I'm fine with a slow and methodical rebuild as opposed to knee jerk reactions that cause long term issues for the team. That's what got us in our current position to begin with.
The key now is getting the second and third tier type guys. I'm all for this approach if it means bringing in the Brandon Gibson's, Victor Butler's, Mike Goodson's, etc.
Luckily, for Idzik, the Jets 2011 and 2012 teams made fans not too fond over any Jets player really. If you only watched one game, you know they need to rebuild. Obviously if he traded Wilkerson or Coples it would make no sense, but that is not happening. People liked Keller, but he was hurt last year and worthless. Revis is a fan favorite, but very greedy and coming off an ACL injury, Landry was great last year, but has been hurt in the past and looking for too much money. Losing DeVito is unfortunate, but hopefully Ellis steps up. If you are talking about other team's free agents, then yeah, the fans also realize the Jets are not a piece or two away so why be upset? It is clearly a new position for Jets fans, but one that needs to be taken.
That's okay. I'm not a Rex hater by any means but IMO he's more of a defensive co-ordinator anyway. Maybe a new coach wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen.
