There were tons of posts forecasting we were going to get blown out across all media. I’m not wasting my time researching that for you. Bottom line, your assessment of mediocre is yours and your alone, and kind of completely inaccurate.
So literally nobody said they were a great team. You made it up and were wrong. You won't admit it. Got it. Thanks
BTW...... None of this is personal. You are an awesome poster and have been for years. I'm probably just cranky and sad that my dad passed away a few weeks ago. Today was a hard day for me. First opening day of my life without him. I'm sorry if I'm coming off like a jerk.
Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear that. My prayers are with you and your family. May he rest in eternal peace. I think very highly of your posts and I don’t take it personal. Life has a way of reminding us to put this game in perspective. On to next week. Be well and stay strong.
For the first game under a new regime I saw a lot of encouraging signs. I wasn't expecting the team to turn around instantly, but there was a lot to build on here. I totally get that people are sick of being patient, especially when patience has led absolutely nowhere over the past decade or so, but there were genuine changes - fewer dumb penalties (not completely eradicated, but way better), signs of an identity with that running game, signs of an aggressive defence. We lost to yet another stupid long-range field goal - nobody ever seems to miss against us and that kick would have been good from 65 yards. When you were as bad as this team was after multiple failed regimes, this was a huge step. Whether or not we build on it, who knows, but I enjoyed the game and it's been a while since I could say that.
You don't think there was anyone predicting that they would be competing for last place in their division?
This. Room for improvement everywhere, but if you watched yesterday’s game and didn’t see the drastic improvement in team chemistry, effort, discipline, and camaraderie then I don’t know what to say. The demons of old took over for about 6 minutes of the game with Quincy’s boneheaded personal foul that moved PIT from 2nd and long deep in their own territory to 1st and 10 at almost midfield, followed by the awful fumble by Gipson. That’s why we lost. What was encouraging is that we came back and scored to take the lead right away. We usually just fold when momentum changes like that. Fields looked much better than I think even his most ardent supporters would’ve expected.
I was expecting the Jets to win. Now I thought it would be a close game and maybe we win 23-20 or 20-17 something like that, but I thought we would play better and pull it off. Now, it was a higher scoring game, but we did play better, and we should have won a a close one as I was expecting. So, no I am not amazed the Jets were in the game: we have a solid team and Pitts is not exactly the Chiefs. At home we should win a game like that, and I don't see why this would not be the expectation. If anything this game proved that, because we outplayed the Pitts. As far as Rodgers, he is still slow as hell, and to be frank I don't think this was some great performance in spite of high QB rating. He had too many wide ass open receivers when our defensive zone coverage broke down. And he should have had 2 picks also, he missed these two throws badly and we should have picked him off. Based on this game I would definitely rather have Fields.
Yeah, especially when that "logic" is based on nothing but unfounded opinion. Maybe we should apply the Scientific Method next time.
NFL.com, ESPN, SI, CBS and NBC all publish weekly rankings early in the week. Pittsburgh had three 16s, a 17 and an 18. That certainly hits in the sweet spot of mediocrity. I'm not sure where those "tons" of posts you saw came from but it's extremely rare that blowouts forecasted result in only a 3 point spread.
You’re conflating two entirely separate categories of thought: logic and reasoning. Logic refers to the structural validity of an argument — i.e., whether the conclusion follows necessarily from the premises. On that front, my argument is internally consistent and therefore logically sound. Reasoning, on the other hand, concerns the content of those premises, which in this case involve projections about future performance. Since future outcomes in sports are, by definition, non-falsifiable until realized, they remain in the realm of opinion — informed or otherwise, and thus can’t be criticized as simply opinion to negate them. so, you not only don’t know the difference between logic and reason to even interject in the discussion, you don’t even grasp the hypocrisy of disputing an opinion as unfounded opinion when there isn’t enough data to support or dispute it, and so we are all engaged in a discussion of unfounded opinions at this point. And you boast such ignorance so proudly. Ignorance truly is bliss when you aren’t embarrassed to do so.
If an opinion is valid it is easy to support; if it cannot be supported, might as well call it logic.
The Steelers won but Mike Tomlin is probably thinking, Boy did we make a mistake not signing Fields. Rodgers is very temporary.
Yes they did show promise. They played like a well oiled machine for much of the day it's such a shame they lost that game. At the end of the day it was yet another kick to the balls, heartbreaking loss. For Jets fans been there done that ain't nothin' new about that. Same ol' same ol'. CMan69 said we should expect these "growing pains" and that (he scared the daylights out of me when he said) it could be "several seasons" of more kick to the balls losses like yesterday's game. There's nothing scientific about that. Where does it show that we must lose _______ amount of games before the wins start rolling in? Especially if the QB Coach Glenn and the rest of this new regime couldn't wait to get rid of goes out on top this season like Elway & Manning did? It could happen. Coach Glenn talks about culture yadda yadda yadda we're losing and Aaron Rodgers ends this season hoistinga Lombardi trophy with the Steelers? That would HURT man HUUURT so much!!!
Hard to quantify this as we're dealing with humans here and not maachines. We're gonna have a lot of moving parts, adjustments and setbacks before the system settles in with the roster and the CS. This is all dark territory for this new CS. Glen is getting a fair amount of buy in from his roster. There are guys who will thrive and guys who won't. Time is our friend even for us old guys. If nothing else, having been on this earth as long as we have should have taught us that people learn things at their own rate. The CS will improve and so will the players in Wilks' system but its gonna take time. Perhaps more than one season but we'll know by game 17 this year if the light bulb has started to flicker or not in the Jet lockerroom.
