Sorry, its not my fault your team made one of the most dumb trades of all time. Im angry at the Mets for making the trade with the D-Rays. The Yankees have to face him a bunch of times per year.

That's just it, I think we were an average team that was lucky to be in 1st place. If you look at the records of the 2 teams from June on it's apparent Philliy was the better team.

    Mets
    June 11-15
    July 13-14
    August 15-13
    Sept 14-14

    Phillies
    June 15-13
    July 15-10
    August 16-12
    Sept 16-11

Look at April and May Ironically when Howard was injured and recovering

    Mets
    April 15-9
    May 19-9

    Phillies
    11-14
    13-14

Like I said in another thread if Howard and Utley don't get hurt the Phils win the division by 5 or 6 games and we arn't even having the collapse discusion. IMO it's probably better that it happened this way because it will likley lead to changes. From June 1 on the Phillies were 17 games over .500 while the Mets were 2 games under. Doesn't seem like that big of a collapse just a mediocre team that went into a slump at the wrong time.

We're on exactly the same page, and this sentence really says it all - the Mets didn't really "collapse" down the stretch, they went into a slump - the kind of slump that .500 teams get all the time.

It may all be blowing smoke, but unfortunately Omar's early comments aren't encouraging from this point of view - "I think we have a good team with a good nucleus. I'm not one for major changes" does not fill me with hope that the urgency of the situation is clear. I am very afraid that Randolph will be back next year, and it will be more of the same with pretty much the same cast of characters.

You're correct that this is a very bad sign. Good teams don't play .500 ball for 100+ games. Whenever Omar starts "managing expectations" you know you're in for trouble. He did it last offseason, and he did it before the trading deadline.

Technically, part of that statement is false.
All teams will win at least 50 games and lose at least 50 games. Its what they do with the other 50 games that decides their season.

it wasnt just glavine and the pitching which stunk, it was your hitters on hitting and defense that caused the collapse.

Can we mention Kaz Matsui? He's still playing ball in October -- maybe has a shot at NLDS M.V.P.
