you guys are short sighted. the 'lowley kicker' is usually the number one scorer on most nfl teams.

i would use a number one overall pick all day long on a kicker that can't miss from 50yds.

no other player has more impact on the outcome of close games. none.

They don't exist and most kickers miss the most important kicks of the year anyway so what's your point? That's why they are so hated by everyone from the coach to the equipment man.

I really wanted him to work out after we got rid of Doug Brien for him. He was very consistent kicker for us til his injury. But we have Feely who is just as good. So not much of a drop off

You're right- his kickoffs were consistently short- something that hurt us in quite a few games.

I for one will not shed a tear, now that the "Iceman" will walk out of the building.

Pretty much sums it up. Drafting him in the second round was just Dumb as in Dumbway.

Another disappointment gone. Feeley has been solid but has had some bad times during his career. I dont mind bring in a rookie to compete. That rookie would have to be a 6-7 round pick or undrafted. I dont know what the draft has to offer as far as kickers.

Well I would spend a 1st pick on a kicker that can't miss from 50 yards. Too bad that no kicker will ever be able to do that. And you know if the Jets had a kicker that consistently made 50+ yard field goals, he would miss the one in overtime in the playoffs.

Also, imagine a kicker signing a contract with $30 million guarenteed.

Good. Fuck that asshole. All he ever did was blow clutch kicks.

The fact that we waster a 2nd rounder on his sorry ass makes me absolutely sick to my stomach.

Nugent was great in 2006 and struggled in 2007. I was never very comfortable with him. Feely was really good last year, though as Giants fans can attest to, he has these rages of inconsistency sometimes and can single handedly lose games for you. The fact is, though, that his kicking percentage is always high, so I hope we bring him back. Punter is what I'm more worried about. With Ryan, you know we'll have some low scoring games where field position is important- we need a good punter to pin teams back.

Nugent was a terrible 2nd round pick. When you have solid offense and defense, you don't need to spend draft picks on kickers. You don't need one with a rocket leg, which is what a lot of people were expecting when we drafted this guy. Then we completed the fiasco by spending our other 2nd round pick on essentially another Special Teams player in Justin Miller. If Woody had gone right to the brain police, this would never have happened. There were a lot of people, Br4dw4y5ux at the forefront, saying that we should have drafted Heath Miller if we needed a TE that badly. They were right.

Come on, dude -- you've got to be kidding w/this post.
Historical facts prove this to be so wrong.
You're confusing the importance of a kicker as it relates to draft position.
Just go down the list of top scoring kickers in the NFL - most of them were undrafted for crying out loud.
Gostkowski was probably the lowest draft pick --- 4th round
