i should have went into more detail. if the list is just taking talent I think mangold ahead of dbrick and at cro # 2 if they are going to take position into consideration then cro would have been #3. a great olineman < than a good to great cb. so the list seems to have an inconsistency. although lists are made to cause debate, so on that point its a good list
I maybe alone on this but to me Brick is better than Mangold.Mangold has the benefit of playing on the interior where alot of mistakes are masked & plays get gobbled up by the "phone booth". Brick is out on an island against the league's best pass rushers every single week & more than holds his own. Perhaps he's only an average run blocker but there is nobody better at blindside protection. Even in his perceived "down year" he was on an elite level. Mangold is elite in his own right but Brick is the superior athlete
I wouldn't argue with this. mangold gets more respect because he is largely considered the best at his position. brick has never held that distinction.
Here's Ferguson at #2. I can see the reasoning. He did pretty much carry the line last year and faced tough opposition. I didn't realize he's still got 5 years on contract. That means Cromartie is #1! Here is the entire list to recap: 25. Josh Bush 24. Jeff Cumberland 23. Joe KcKnight 22. Mike Goodson 21. Stephen Peterman 20. Stephen Hill 19. Bilal Powell 18. Kellen Winslow 17. Willie Colon 16. Antwan Barnes 15. Dawan Landry 14. Kyle Wilson 13. Demario Davis 12. Mark Sanchez 11. Austin Howard 10. Jeremy Kerley 9. Chris Ivory 8. Quinton Coples 7. Calvin Pace 6. Santonio Holmes 5. David Harris 4. Muhammad Wilkerson 3. Nick Mangold 2. D'brickashaw Ferguson 1. Antonio Cromartie Much different than last year's list, but funny enough a CB is still #1.
The Jets aren't particularly talented right now. It is what it is. I'd rank Muhammad Wilkerson a bit higher and Austin Howard a bit lower but it's really not a bad list at all. There are no slots where you're just going "what was that guy thinking?"
I look at the list and I don't think the roster is devoid of talent as much as the talent is in the wrong places. no offensive playmakers in the top 5. in this day of football that doesn't work. if the center was 12 and qb was 4. the team woud be looked at much differently
Looking at that list, you see we should have good base going forward and we just need to add some more skill position players, specifically offensively. Granted, we knew that this was going to be a rebuild for Idzik and he given us a shot at improving QB via a new QB and new OC, and should have settled our DL and CB for years to come.
I agree with Harris at 5. He is very valuable to our D and calls the signals. He would be very tough to replace because he does way more for the team than simply play his position and he knows Rex's D well. Pace & Sanchez should have been ranked lower than they were, IMO. Other than that I might squeeze Wilkerson at #2. I'm expecting a mega season from him. We might just see him at #1 next year.
Let's just wrap this up, shall we? No complaints on Cro at #1 from me. He really stepped up last year and will need to keep it up if the 2013 Defense has it's sites set on being Top 5 again.
