What a shock. Another post by SG3 that has nothing substantial to offer.

SG3, wasting band space on at least 2 message boards I know of, and many more, I have not doubt, that I am not aware.

You're on here pumping up the pats draft like it was great because they went all defense when their d sucked last year. In the same breath you ignore the long term project the pats traded up in the first round for you seem to indicate Hill was a bad pick because he's a project. Of course he's raw, i never said he wasn't. You seem to think the pats project pick was just solid gold though.

Btw, it's difficult to rack up a bunch of receptions in an offense that has fewer than 70 total receptions. Hill had nearly half of his teams receptions.

I guess you'd like the pick a lot better if he went out and put up average numbers in the big east.

Maybe its just me but I think the Pats had an AWFUL draft

Chandler Jones was by a mile a tremendous reach/project I dont care where he was projected.

I liked the idea of the Jets drafting him in the late 2nd, as a project who likely wouldnt do much for the first 2 years. Trading up early 1st for him is ridicoulous.

Hightower and Dennard are probably their two best picks.

    Neither with that great upside.

I couldnt give the pats draft more than a C+ at best.

The only team in the AFCE possibly with a worse draft than them is the Fins.

I wouldn't call it a bad draft before anyone plays a down. Chandler could be the next lawrence taylor for all we know. The problem i have is with this guy talking like it was great while hating on jets picks. His reasoning is especially stupid when you consider the pats probably took an even bigger risk in jones than the jets did later in the draft with Hill.

Well its a bad draft in the sense that they got poor value, and their secondary still sucks balls.

Obviously if Jones/Hightower pan out it works out, but i still think the value just aint there.

The Jets play a good amount of 4-2-5 and Brady punished this package by calling runs out of the no-huddle. This is why I really think Davis will get a shot on the field w/ Pats. Less 4-2-5 & hopefully more 4-3. My expectations are pretty low for most NFL rookies so I'm hoping Davis will get just enough experience to not blow games and "catch up" to the NFL game. Then next season after Scott+Pace are gone, Rex will have one LB with experience ready to step in (hopefully) & then only need to draft/sign one more.

You're right about the learning curve. I do have high hopes for Coples but not during his rookie season. For this season, I'm hoping Coples can help set the edge against the run and provide enough pass rush to sometimes require 2 blockers. Whether Coples starts or not, he'll be part of a DL rotation so the # plays he sees per game will vary (at least in his rookie season).

Think there was a miscommunication between us. With Coples reported off the field issues, there's no way he would've been a top 5 pick this season. I do think he had chance @ cracking the top 5 if he entered last years draft though. Coples last season in NCAA really really lowered his perception across the league.

Rumors that he doesn't play @ 100% and then there's the lower numbers == Plenty to point at if your a anti-Coples guy. At the same time, if you're a pro-Coples, you'll point to the mass sanctions that wrecked his team, firing of his coach, position change and different responsibilities. We won't know who's right until one/two season completes. I believe in him because one of his college coaches worked w/ Rex during Rex college days. I'm hoping this means Jets did their due diligence prior to selection.

Hill definitely needs some development. Especially when you consider he came out of an offense without much passing. Jets don't need Hill to put up big numbers though. Simply being good enough to command enough attention to stretch D is all we're hoping for. If Hill can be consistently contained with just a CB without help then that's gonna hurt bad.

The way last season ended, there was plenty of threads/posts on this forum to just take the cap hit and get rid of Holmes. I'm hoping that the new OC will be able to get the offense to stop dicking around and be more focused. Let's face it, he actually kept Brandon Marshall well behaved out in Miami.

4th rounders are risky and Tebow is 100% good enough to run wildcat and be backup qb. Personally, I would've preferred to keep the pick & go after OL project and just drop the option offense. Rex is insistent about keeping the option offense though, so there's a definite need for a Tebow-like player on the Jets right now.

I completely agree. I LOL’d when the Pats traded up for Jones. He was a mid to late 2nd rounder up until April 20th, and then he shot up board because Mayock said he “could” be the best defensive player in the draft. You watch the tape and you just dont see it. And the JPP comparisons are laughable.

I did like the Hightower and Dennard picks, but like you said, neither has great upside.

They also had the worst pick in the entire draft, yet some experts try and spin it and justify the pick... There is no justification for a Safety that could’ve gone undrafted and picking him in the 2nd. We got a better safety prospect in Antonio Allen 5 rounds later.

And people also have to remember the Pats defense is losing 10 sacks from Mark Anderson last year and have to make up for that, and I doubt Jones is able to do that initially because of how raw he is.

Overall, I see an upgrade at LB with Hightower and Nickel with Dennard... For a team that had 2 firsts and 2 seconds, that is just not good...

I obviously hope you're right about this take on Coples. But I have to say, if he has problems playing for a team mired in dysfunction and controversy, he's in the wrong place.

    Two questions

    1) When did you get to see anybody's draft boards?

    2) What "tape" did you watch? Don't try to tell me you've seen any all-22 film, the only real way to evaluate players, but how many Syracuse games have you seen the last few years? Were you specifically watching Jones when he was on the field?

If you don't think Chandler Jones will be a good player, that's fine, no one knows how good he'll be. But don't try talk out out of your ass, it just makes you look like an idiot.

Just a thought...but many rookies take 2-3 years to develop because they almost never even play their rookie season.

Rex seems to have a theory of having rookies learn by fire (Sanchez, Slauson) and players he's tried to toss in but didn't pan out quick enough.

This attitude may benefit new rookies like Coples and Hill as far as getting them up to speed a lot sooner. Plus DE in the 3-4 aint rocket science....just smear the queer (Brady).

I watched 3-4 games on TV of Jones this year and about any video I can find of him online (meaning no highlight bullshit). I take part in the draft forum and everyone shares their knowledge. We have a few big syracuse fans that watched every game of his and also agree that he has never been an elite player. Even his stats arent dominant or really close to that and he played in the ACC. Many on the draft forum watch about all they possibly can of college football, and all of the “well respected and knowledgable posters” would agree with the statement that Jones was hyped up a week prior to the draft and didnt meet this elite prospect label on film. You can even look at his combine numbers and they werent spectacular. I honestly dont think you can pick out one thing and call him an elite prospect...

Of course I didnt see any “draft boards”, no one here has. Sure, you can say that because I havent seen a real NFL “draft board”, I dont know shit, but then any person on this forum or anybody who doesnt work for a FO doesnt know shit either.

Obviously, you think you are hot shit because you feel you can just question anything and everything and just call it bullshit... And because of that, you must be brilliant and know everything there is to know.

And BTW, I never said Chandler Jones wont be a good player, because I think he can, but I dont agree with where he was drafted or his increase in draft stock a week before the draft.

Let me ask you this, have you watched any film on him and/or spend countless hours researching the draft? Because I would like to know your opinion on him, if you have one.

When you can't run, and shouldnt run (losing the game big)the OL is under severe duress. I love Greene but he seems to be better with another pounder (jones). Ground and pound works best with the lead and backs who can POUND without getting hurt

Huge difference between the kind of dysfunction and controversy that reigned in Chapel Hill last year (and the year before) and what is going to be happening to the Jets.

Coples has a much better year last year if the guy who recruited him and inflicted him on the ACC was still there. Having Butch Davis fired after Coples skipped the draft had to be a devastating blow to him.

Rex Ryan is Cople's promoter on the Jets. It would take Ryan leaving amid a lot of controversy and turmoil to replicate the conditions Coples faced last season.

OK, if you're comfortable relying on the people who post in the draft forum to form your opinions about players, more power to you. I prefer to put more stock in guys like Mike Mayock and Greg Cosell, those guys have earned my respect as football analysts and I know they watch the coach's film. But hey, to each their own.

If you haven't seen any draft boards, don't say stuff like "he shot up draft boards the week leading up to the draft." You don't know what anyone in the NFL thought of him, so don't try to pretend that there was some consensus that he was a mid to late 2nd rounder.

    LOL

I've seen very little of him, and no, I don't spend countless hours researching the draft. I only know what I read from media I trust, but I'm aware that it's a very incomplete picture. But I don't spend my time trying to figure out who is gonna be a good player and who isn't, it's too much of a crap shoot to waste my time trying.

I'm of the opinion that it's a fascinating pick, because it's goes against the grain of traditional first-rounders Belichick selects. Generally, the first pick the Patriots go for is someone who has played a lot, and been productive on the field. Jones has neither of those qualities, yet Belichick felt strongly about him to give up a 1st and a 3rd for him. What did he see in him? I can't wait to find out.

God, I think like making it up as you go along. Please show me a quote where I "glorified" Chandler Jones. IIRC I even said that I expected Hightower to have a greater immediate impact:jets.

Like you said they are all great risks until they start to play, and even then it will be 3 years down the road before we can really get a read on what these player will be.

The difference between you and I is how we look at prospect. You clearly are enamored by the "ceiling" of your picks. I on the other hand, like the high "floors" of the guys we picked.

As I mentioned before, all reports on Jones talk about his non-stop motor, his coachability, and his leadership qualities, along with the high potential. Coples on the other hand gets high marks for talent, but also questions about his motor, coachability, and leadership qualities.

When picking in the first round, you can't afford to miss. So I believe if both players had been available, the Pats still would have picked Jones, simply because they value the high floor, over the high ceiling with a risk factor. It will be interesting the next few years, because even though they play different positions in different styles of defense, they are going to be linked together for the rest of their Pats and Jets careers, and likely a topic of many threads between Pats and Jets fans.

I think we have an honest disagreement in how we view the picks, but what I don't like is that you put words in my mouth and then used the falsehood to complain.
