Refer to my last post. Looking at the box score is how teams as dumb as the Jets end up giving Justin Fields a shot
This is spot on, top to bottom. Your last sentence is exactly what I’ve been trying to say about Fields since we signed him and what’s been evident in every game hes played in for us.
i didn’t need the box score to know we ran it down their throats and had 2 TDs taken away ff the board. I saw it live.
How can you tell that without all 22? In the first half blitzes were killing us. His TO was on a blitz too, how do you know someone was open to pass to? And that TO wasn't even that bad, it was a 4th down so, we would have lost the ball anyone if he threw to a closed receiver. We should have just kicked the ball there and got 3 points. I don't get the Fields hate here. He got over 300 yards total, including 226 passing, 2 TDs with 1 TO (on 4th down anyway), completed 74%, 111 rating, plus robbed of 30 more yards passing and a TD and several late personal fouls, yet still generated 400+ offense. And yet he still sucks... That's BS.
Even if you give them the touchdown on the Allen fumble they "ran it down their throats" to the tune of 10 points for the first half. And the other 3 points came from the worlds saddest clock killing 2 minute drill that looked like something out of the early 1900s. All their points in the second half came with them down 2 scores and the opposing defense essentially not playing. Which is where much of the Jets offense has come from this year.
I’ve come around, I was hopeful with Fields but this was just awful football. losing 27-21 with “400 yards” is actually detrimental because he is playing so bad, i have to just hope they are giving a real evaluation at Florham Park. They have to right? They watch the film
Opinions are like assholes. We all have them. Folks are free to believe the QB cost us this game while I believe penalties, turnovers and a soft ass defense did.
We've seen this movie so many times over the last ~10 years. If the coaches/coordinators are terrified to let a QB pass then there's usually a good reason. I'd love for us to open things up too but we're likely to start seeing 2+ INT games if we do. I don't think Fields was as good as the stats indicate today. There were a lot of times he dropped back to pass and either found no one or failed to throw to the best option. Lots of garbage time yardage too.
ok watch your all 22. But do so with a clear mind and just honestly take in what you are seeing The blitzes are getting him, yes, but these are delayed blitzes. Every other team, the ball is out, they laugh at delayed blitzes. Its devastating to Fields because he’s still trying to think about where he wants to throw it
WTF is right. WTF is Allen, a 230 lb RB, doing running back kicks????? What does AG think that he's going to make up for the fumble by running straight through Miami for a TD??? Now Allen is hurt because of that stupid call.
Yea the box score bullshit has to stop. It’s absurd. Anyone watching the game knows where a bulk of those yards came from. Fucking guy had 54 yards passing at the half, 66 yards to start the fourth and then 100+ in the fourth when the defense was relaxing up double digits. I really hope no one in our front office is falling for that crap. Here’s the issue… even if they are looking at the film what does it matter? It won’t change. This is who he’s been his whole career.
I never said he was good. I said this specific loss was not on him. The coaches could have put it on him but like you said they were “terrified”. Because they were scared, we’ll never know if he could have cost us this game like so many want credit him.
well the dream of him becoming a late bloomer like Mayfield or something is dead. So that’s good, like the front office will obviously upgrade at the end of the season just gonna be a rough 13 games if they try to trot this out. I hope they give up on the experiment sooner
A lot of things cost the Jets this game. They're an atrocious football team, with very little talent and poor coaching. It doesn't have to be one or the other.
Those are all true. Penalties, turnovers, soft D, AND a bad QB cost us the game Yes, Fields’ stats look great on paper…70%+ completion rate, 100+ QBR…plus that long TD run…on paper it’s actually not just good, it’s VERY good. But if you watch the games, it’s like another poster said, the offense just looks broken with him in there…he holds the ball too long, he throws to the wrong guy too often, and even on plenty of his completions, the throw is off target and the receiver has to make a play on a ball behind him. The OL is struggling to hold blocks too long and gets holding calls. It’s just not efficient. Most of his yards came late when the Dolphins were playing soft and giving up the underneath stuff…to his credit, he took what the D gave him, but overall it wasn’t good. There’s a reason the OC didn’t put the ball in the air…now part of it is we only have GW at receiver, though it was nice to see Taylor have a good day…but Fields is just not an NFL caliber starter…not unless you have the rest of the team playing perfect ball…and we are far from that
There was no garbage time. The game never reached a point where Miami rested their players on defense. They played best defense they possibly could and Fields put together very good game when we finally picked up the blitzes. Stats reflect that too. If anything he should have had more when the refs took 30 yard TD pass off the board.
Well they’ll move on but I dunno if that means upgrade. Kinda hard to feel good about the talent evaluation ability of this regime. Tons of busts, not a single positive contributor outside of Membou and Taylor. And that’s not counting guys they chose to keep.
Dude… they literally dropped every single defender into coverage on a play, which the announcers said they’ve never seen. They were rushing 4 and parking everyone at the first down marker for the last two drives. In no world was Miami playing the same D in quarter 4 as they were the first 3. Exact same thing as TB.
