This is something I think is being overlooked. He has been playing RG and we need someone on the left. I am not a o-line expert but how well could his skill set translate?
Wasn't he playing RT before they switched him? I thought the the front office originally wanted him to eventually replace Anthony Clement.
I think Tennessee Jet might be referring to Vincent being a RG last year and we need a LG, but I could be mistaken. To answer his question, I don't think the transition from RG to LG or LG to RG is as drastic as a switch of tackle positions.
this is when of those few times when a free agent comes up that i will say... sign him ASAP!! we need more depth at LG with Kendall gone. Bender is the future but he's not ready yet from what Ive seen. Clarke is a bandaid for the problem and nothing more than a temporary fix. Vincent would be a massive upgrade and he's 29 with plenty of experience. I say we move in like hawks on this one.
I will take him, but the O-line will still be in bad shape with him on it. This will be a signing to make the fans think all is fixed, when it really isn't. By the way, how did Nick Mangold slide to #29 overall?
the Colts cut Rick DeMulling , i know he is a T but we need all the help we can get. this guy is only 30(7 years in the league) and use to be very good , what happen to him? is he injured or something like that?
The only things I can think of that would make much of a difference is the right side of the line is usually the strong side in the running game. This would mean that your LG would have to be a guy that's pretty good at getting to the second level and taking out linebackers OR they need to be good at pulling and making good open-field blocks. If Vincent is a mauler, he might compliment Ferguson's athleticism nicely. One thing we've lacked up front are maulers.
no fans wont think this is fixed but we'll feel more comfortable with our in progress o-line. it needs to get done, your trying to trivialize a pickup that would actually be significant for this year. maybe not in the long run, but this year definitely
Bender is an accomplished RUN blocker. Get Vincent, who is only 29, put him at LG, Put Bender at RG, where his learning curve in Pass Blocking is less of a liability, (And besides between Moore, and Bender, you'll probably get less penalties out of the RG position.)
I think that it would be a good signing but the only thing that concerns me is his injury history. He last played in all 16 games with the Steelers in 05. 9 games in 06 and 12 last year. Last years injury was his hammy I believe.
I thought he had something done on his knee... Anways, we need to go for whatever upgrade we might be able to find.
