i think this thread is a mess because a number of posters dont like dware... however i think he makes good points in the OP and i agree that a very good de who can force the pocket back and not allow the qb to step up is a HUGE thing as far as the pass rush. i think it is more important than a speed rush guy off the corner. if the qb can step up he will not be sacked nearly as many times as he would if he cant step up or better has to step back. i agree with winstons posts on the 2nd page. the patriots didnt win anything, thats his point. it doesnt matter that they were prolific all year. they didnt win anything. they were outschemed in part because they were 1 demensional.
is there any discussion that you guys want to have out of this thread, or should I just do the needful and close it?
A couple of points: The Jets do NOT need a WR. With Edwards, Cotchery, Keller, Washington, and Smith or any other 3rd WR, that is plenty of weapons. As for Greene catching passes, Ray Rice never caught a pass in college and now he is the best receiving RB in the NFL. I think the Jets teach Greene how to catch passes this offseason so that he becomes a complete back. The reason the Jets NEED a pass rusher is simple. While Ryan's blitzing defense is very effective, there comes a time in every season when a team must be able to generate a pass rush by rushing only 4 and dropping the other 7 into coverage. The AFC Championship game is perfect example. Eventually, a good passing team with a good QB figures out how to stop the blitz and then the secondary is exposed. With an effective 4 man pass rush and a blitz, the Jets become that much harder to defend. As for CB, the Jets do need some secondary help, but some are operating under two misconceptions. First, finding another Revis will be a miracle. The guy is already the best CB in the NFL. You just don't go out and get another Revis. Second, having another CB is not enough to stop teams that send 4-5 guys out on passing downs. Two CBs cover only 2 players - you need DBs to cover the other 2 WRs and the TE. It is pretty clear to me that a pass rushing OLB and a DE should be the priorities, with a CB next. I don't think there is a need on offense other than OL depth, although I would not be adverse to drafting a guard or tackle to groom to replace Faneca or Woody. I will puke in my mouth if the Jets gamble on a WR in the first round.
I don't agree with most of DWare's rationale but clearly he isn't trolling. The personal attacks are unnecessary - there's plenty of room in the TT forum for that. You don't even have to make a new thread.
i agree. jutty his opinion on another subject should have no bearing on this subject. this is actually a decent thought and one that can be debated... however some just read the name and their brain turns off.
Go read half of his annoying shit in the draft forum, and I think you'll change your mind. Also, he created this exact thread TWICE, because no one gave a shit about the first version this morning.
