THe worst thing about Maguire was that he was RIGHT that year! Worst collapse ever (I don't want to hear about the injuries or the roughing call either). There were opportunities that were missed - same stuff I see this year. Disheartening.

I heard that Homer, shithead Fred Smerlas on Patriots All-Access this weekend. He said that the Patriots would win their last 4 games and the Jets would go 2-2 and the Pats would win the division. I got pissed off at first because he always dogs the Jets. Then I started thinking..."yeah. actually I wouldn't be surprised if that happened".

    To the OP,

There really is no good answer, I am afraid. Part of it is not getting too up, whether in pre-season or mid season, or really any time. I think back to the Pitt game for a fairly recent example even the newer fans here can relate about. Snuck out of SD with a win that for once was given to the Jets, with a chance to finally get to the Champ game if the Jets can just score enough points to beat a playoff untested Ben R and what looked like a Pitt O that could ber stopped if their running game could be. But they ran enough and Chad was exposed, leading the team to a measly three points.

Those who remember that can also no doubt remember the wait til next year feeling, that we of course all have, but of course 05 was a disaster, followed by an 06 with a weak schedule that again gave false hope.

I didn't mean to digress into the details of recent failures, but I guess there is something in there for guidance. When they win, enjoy the win for what it is. Don't try and get your future hopes up too much. You don't have to think "what is the worst thing than can happen now? That is what will happen", but at least acknowledge the truth, something that is true also about real life, and that is that the hope, the possibility, that something good will happen are not enough to make it so. Be aware of the pitfalls that might prevent you from getting what you want. And of course the whole vicarious experience of being a sports fan - one must recognize the element of irrationality in it, and that what some bunch of pro football players do or do not do is really not a reflection on you and your personal life. Be careful about over identification in it.

I myself feel really bad about this loss, so like I said at the beginning there's only so much you can consider in coming up with a helpful answer to your question. Maybe just get a little perspective on it. And knowing of course the obvious - you will survive, and live to see another day when the Jets get your hopes up and then disappoint you. At least there is a consistency about it that is not entirely devoid of comfort.
