Jets got the best outcome possible 1) Got rid of Mangini 2) Hired Rex Ryan 3) Acquired Sanchez because of trade with Mangini's help Thanks Mangini, you made up for your bumbling. Good riddance have a nice life on Friday Night Lights
I don't feel bad for this guy at all. He wasn't a good coach. I admit, 2006 was an amazing year, but I really believe alot of it had to do with Schotty's innovative offense. Hence the reason why teams were looking to hire Schotty after just one year. That being said, after one good year we all became disillusioned that Mangini was Mangenius. Thank God we have a lot of character guys on this team who did not complain about how much of a dictator Mangini was (although Coles didn't seem to mind talking about it). He got everyone on board after 2006 and then proceeded to do a 180 with his philosophy and basically wasted 2 more years of our time. Outside of 2006 Mangini has not demonstrated that he can coach a football team. He is way too strict and he doesn't even have the rings to command respect from the team. I'm taking a class on Business management right now and Mangini possesses all the wrong characteristics of a good manager. He dictates everything from the top and doesn't allow his players to make their own little decisions to carry out the team's goals, he demoralizes the team (i.e. the buses and fines), he can't make adjustments in adverse situations (half time management), and can not put his players in the best situation to succeed (making a Jets 4-3 team into a 3-4 immediately). I think future managers can just watch clips of Mangini and learn how NOT to manage effectively.
There are two official grievances filed against him, with supposedly 3 more coming. He won't be a head coach of any team again after Thanksgiving 2009.
The team not doing well is one thing. I mean, no one expected them to compete this year anyway. I definitely don't expect him to get fired unless they go 0-16 and the team absolutely quits on him. But, when you start getting the players' union involved because he "abuses" the players, that's a different story. If Mangini starts getting suspended or something for his actions by the league, that kinda makes an owner take notice.
Tend to agree in general, but you wouldn't have been able to find anyone who could say the same in Chicago during the Michael Jordan era. NBA is feast or famine, your team either sucks (Knicks) or is amazing (Lakers, Cavs) and makes the game interesting.
He might be picked up by McDaniels if he lasts any longer with the Broncos (which so far so improbably good for McD). Did anyone see their after game handshake. It almost seemed like they were kissing.
I saw the below & it actually makes an excellent point. The Newark Star-Ledger's Dave Hutchinson wrote these words in the aftermath of Busgate, but they are more true now than ever: "Being hired so soon after being canned by the Jets may turn out to be the worst thing to happen to Mangini because he didn't get the chance to reflect on his experience as a first-time head coach. Instead, he's instituting many of the same bullish policies he had with the Jets, many of which rubbed players the wrong way."
except he wasn't a good DC either and fielded the worst Pats defense in the last 10 years if I am not mistaken (though he had the injury excuse, even though the year before the Pats won the Super Bowl with a WR playing DB).
I was thinking the same thing. getting hired so quickly seemed to validate his behavior and thus caused him to magnify it, and create the idea in his head that the Jets simply couldn't see his brilliance. oh how the rest of the world is crazy to crazy people.
I was just talking with a coworker of mine about this yesterday. Since he was hired so fast it probably stroked his ego and made him feel like his policies are just fine. He should have taken a year off. After this year, I think that will happen but it won't be his choice.
Really..what does he care? I think he has a 5 year deal in Cleveland. If they fire him they will have to pay off his contract which is probably at least 4 mil a year. He will be retired in Hawaii at 35 and only we will be talking about it.
Can you imagine what it would've been like for Sanchez if Cleveland kept their pick, and drafted Mark 5th. Yikes! I have a feeling Stafford would be having a better year.
