Marshall is pouting about his QB Shitz and drops every other pass Anderson can't catch and is so skinny and weak he's one hit from the cemetery Devon Smith is horrible No TE's Petty has to be helped by putting Forte and Powell in at the same time
It would be great to see a Petty-to-Enunwa connection develop. Really think that we've got something special in Enunwa in that he can win against backers and safeties in the middle, but also has enough quickness to motion to the outside. Petty clearly has the ability to throw the ball farther -- thus, his preseason chemistry with Anderson, a burner -- and it's probably better that he uses his reps to develop that timing and rhythm for intermediate routes. (Would also like to see more play action called, so he can work on his fakes. But Gailey doesn't seem to like play action for some ridiculous reason.)
Let me start, by saying that [short, and intermediate passes are not easy.] If they were, every team would be using it, no? Especially in almost homogeneous league like NFL. To be specific, we have a name for plays like that - pass plays that churn out good 4-5 yard almost every pop. By WCO terminology, they are called [Staple] plays. Yes, the offense must spend majority of their practice time honing their mastery at these staple plays. There are a multiple reasons behind this - first and foremost, every defense starts the play [stacked] in the short zone. Threading a short pass in 3-step drop here takes a lot of practice and chemistry between the receiver and the passer. Not what Petty has [chemistry, that is] at this particular moment. ====================================================== While the concept started in WCO, virtually every good offense of today's NFL employs this concept. Don't look any farther than Foxboro. Patriots offense pulls some weird shit every once in a while, but in general, they are the epitome of WCO - at least in terms of executions and everything that comes with it. ======================================================= So how do we help Petty? What I think is, this: 1. Bring the running game. 2. Cut the deep field in half, and bring primary read to the designated half, followed by secondary/tertiary reads in shorter range. It should not be the other way around. 3. And the best neutralizer of pass rush: screen pass. Petty will need them too. In short - they must allow Petty to throw deep, and focus separating the defensive attention from the deep ball with run game and screen pass. [Or that's 2 cents from a laymen.]
