Momentum is the in-the-moment morale of a team, and also much more. To say they were fired up from start to finish is weak thinking. Have you ever played football? If so, did you or someone on your team break a huge run or score so quickly that your sideline exploded? I've experienced that and you play better under those circumstances. Being 'fired up' doesn't get your adrenaline going. Emotions do. Things on the field unfold slower and you react more quickly, and with more focus. Momentum is a reality, whether or not you understand it.

Again we're using 20/20 hindsight. We're on the road vs a better and fired up team, they hung 17 on us after we got up 7-0. Leon gave us a play, Mangini wanted to turn it into more and put the momentum firmly on our side. People were bitching he was too scared and conservative the previous week, this was a ballsy call to me. It's easy to pan it after it didn't work, but when I heard it live on the car radio I agreed with the move. The coach can't go out there and recover it, too.

We have had a good special teams unit since this staff has been here, so he challenged them to make a play. Down three in the second quarter, it didn't decide the game. The way our D was playing the Chargers would have gotten to that spot in two plays anyway, so why not try to give Favre the ball back fresh off a TD pass?

It's definitely playing monday morning QB. Like I said, even if they did recover it, it's possible they end up punting anyway.

I wasn't one of the crowd who thought they were too conservative the previous week, and I thought this was a poor decision regardless of whether it worked or not. It should have worked, the players didn't execute.

You make good points though, I guess we just agree to disagree.

I honestly think the turning point was when Barrett dropped the second interception , It was right in his hands. He makes that the games momentum is all ours and no way SD wins. Right after the play Barrett left for awhile with a injury then Jenkins then we turned to dog shit and got ran all over from there on out.

That wasn't the turning point, but that would have been HUGE. It really would have been pouring it on. Im pretty sure that was his second throw too which would have been his first 2 throws being picks.

One of the announcers said quarterbacks have to have amnesia. It would have been much harder to have bounced back like he did after 2 straight picks, but it didnt happen and he tore us apart the rest of the game.

Btw, something that hasnt been talked about. David Barrett as a safety looked GOOD. Like better than Kerry looked. Unfortunately he went down, but I like him as a safety much more than a CB. He always gave the WR tons of space at the line. Safetys the spot for him.

When you have a great D that can stone a team if you give them field position it's not a bad play. When you run a bend don't break D like Sutton and Mangini do you need to make teams go 65 to 80 yards on every drive to stop them.

There's been limited discussion in this thread but it doesn't have a thread of it's own. I agree that he's much more of an asset so far at safety coverage than he had been at corner.
