Klecko also describes a confrontation with Crutchfield in his book, where Crutchfield challenged Klecko in some way and ended up getting picked up and placed on top of a locker by Klecko (yeah, Klecko could do that kind of thing pretty easily). Cructchfiled weighed like 245, in case you were wondering.
He went to the Rams after the Jets and last like a season or two, but really never did much. I just felt it strange that in 1983, the guy was running hard, ahd some real nice games. And then he got cut and it just didn't seem to be the type of talent that gets cut.
Favorable. Only because he checked Steve Serby into a locker. Hell, I'd give Mirer a Favorable rating for that one, too.
That's true, Klecko didn't put up with too much bull$.. He also described an altercation with Chris Ward where he claimed that Ward told him 'Don't mess with me, I'm from the ghetto'. Klecko replied to some effect that he (Klecko) was the ghetto and ended the conversation by calling Ward a lard ass. Klecko didn't put up with too much bull$......
Italian seafood got it exactly right, Crutchfield fumbled with the Jets in FG range late in a 17-17 game against Buffalo, clinging to faint playoff hopes. The Bills recovered and drove down the field to score the game-winning TD. Walton was so pissed he cut Crutchfield the next day...remember this was a second round pick from only the year before. There may have been more to the story.
When Klecko was a rookie in 1977 he was challenged by Carl Barzalauskus (sp?) who was the Jets veteran DE and about 6 foot 7. Klecko put him down and Barzalauskus was done after that, not to be heard from again. Klecko has to be the toughest Jet of all time!
