Im sorry but i have NO confidence we can split with either the Bills or Dolphins, although we probably won't go 0-6 in the division, but i see 1-5 division record, more-so because the Bills/Dolphins give us a game bc they have a bad game, not because we dominate them.
Id say there is still a High chance for the Browns, think of when the Panthers drafter Cam the year after the drafted Jimmy Clausen (in the 2nd round i think) And unless Bortles has a good year, which he may with Fournette taking some pressure off to throw 650 times, the Jags may be drafting a top QB prospect as well.
In regards to teams that would be looking for a starting QB next year there are a few that could suit them instead of drafting one if they are looking for someone with NFL experience. As already mentioned Kirk Cousins If the Pats actually move on from him Jimmy Garapolo will be a free agent. I believe AJ McCarron will be a free agent. The other possible QB could be MIke Glennon as his contract was structured to get out of it after the first year if Trubisky develops quickly. Not saying the jets would be interested in these QBs but there are teams that would probably take a look.
If we assume that Bowles is competent, the real reason to think their might be no playoff run is just the schedule, pretty tough for a young team. But is Bowles competent? I think there is reason to think so, because it's mostly bad coaches who go 4-12 or worse. Even Belichick's worst season in that situation in Cleveland he still won 5. I think if we do worse than that then the future is not bright under Bowles. Ron
I'm assuming that you're the one who entered the game results on staroscream's schedule, as he didn't. I gotta say, that you're more than an optimist. You're a dreamer or are doing some serious mind-altering drugs. Your W-L record is simply laughable. Sun, Sep 10 @ Bills--Swept them last year, look for a repeat. WIN Sun, Sep 17 @ Raiders--I can't see us winning this one. LOSS Sun, Sep 24 vs Dolphins--Home opener. Squish the fish. WIN Sun, Oct 1 vs Jaguars--Two in a row. WIN Sun, Oct 8 @ Browns--Make it three. WIN Sun, Oct 15 vs Patriots--Pats* win the early season AFCE battle. LOSS Sun, Oct 22 @ Dolphins--Bounce back win in South Florida. Sweep! WIN Sun, Oct 29 vs Falcons--Too much firepower. LOSS Thu, Nov 2 vs Bills--Sweep. WIN Sun, Nov 12 @ Buccaneers--Tough loss on the road. LOSS. Sun, Nov 26 vs Panthers--Cam Newton out for the season by now. WIN Sun, Dec 3 vs Chiefs--No six picks this time, team has really started to gel. WIN Sun, Dec 10 @ Broncos--Tough place to play. LOSS Sun, Dec 17 @ Saints--We aren't built to win shootouts. LOSS Sun, Dec 24 vs Chargers--Meaningless game for them. WIN Sun, Dec 31 @ Patriots--Win and we're in. WIN Even if the rest of your predictions are right, we aren't beating the Patriots, Panthers or Chiefs. That's just flat out not dealing with reality. The Patriots need no explanation, nor does KC. Carolina just added a ton of new weapons for Cam, solidified his OL, and has upgraded/fixed some of their problems on D this offseason. Even if he is out for the season (which there is no reason to think he will be), their backup may be better than any QB we have. We aren't sweeping either Miami or Buffalo, much less both of them. In fact, I can't see us beating Miami at all. With the talent Buffalo has and Ryan gone, I don't see any way we beat Buffalo this season, either. The only two games that I think are winnable at all are the Browns and Jaguars, and both teams are so improved, I don't see much hope of that happening. The game against the Browns is the one that the Jets are more likely to win. Jaguar just has too much talent both offensively and defensively.
Based on your comments, I KNEW you wouldn't agree with RobA's pie-in-the-sky vision of the 2017 season. I'm in total agreement with you.
This is not a bottom out 2 win schedule unfortunately. Unless the QBs are extremely bad, worse than Fitz bad we are more likely looking at a 4-7 win season and on the outside looking in for the top QB prospects, if there are any.
9-10 wins from a guy that is 2-22. You're right you are an optimist. The pessimism comes from the offense and specifically how are they gonna score. Also, Bowles and Rodgers are still hovering around like vultures and not expecting the defense to improve. So that means they won't stop anybody.
Your right, a bad offense will expose even the greatest defense, but its just a matter of how bad our offense is. Our offense is pretty bad, but is it bad enough to get a top 3 pick? I'm not sure, it's very possible.
Who are the teams you think the Jets beat and why? Looking at that schedule, I can't see even 4 wins, much less 7, unless everything goes perfectly for the Jets this season.
Not sure of a playoff run, but I 100% agree not a 2-14 team. With great fortune and some good bounces this can be a (9-7) team. Part of that fortune would be Hackenberg or Petty stepping up. Anything under (6-10) should be enough to fire Todd Bowles. Maybe Mac too as it would show the players he has brought in are just not good. Need to see a team getting better and potential for 2018.
I'm not in the business of predicting wins and losses in May. What I've said and I stand by it is this schedule is not as difficult a schedule as last in which we win 5 games with some of the worst QB play I've ever seen as well as a multitude of veterans that didn't even give any effort in most games. Buf x2, Miami x2, Jax, Cleveland, TB, Carolina, NO, SD are all winnable games. Why? Because they are all flawed teams just like the Jets. Now I know we won't win all of them and likely won't win most of them but I also don't think we'll lose all of them.
Well string up the bunting, a 9/7 team fantastic, the stuff of my dreams and what I have been waiting for for over 35 years, I simply can't wait now.
but you never know. we were primed and ready to be set with peyton manning after a 1-15 season but parcells wouldn't guarantee him the 1st pick so he stayed an extra year and we got stuck with keyshawn
That is progress. The team was a complete wreck last year and honestly since 2012. If they want to rebuild properly it will take time.
panthers aren't drafting a QB though. the jags are possible (hence the medium tag) it depends on what they want to do with bortles another 2018 possibility will be bridgewater. he'll be a free agent and healthy. some teams may take a chance on him over drafting a QB
