Stay with me for a minute, on the RB thing. Let me ask you a question....If we went to a 3WR, Keller set and put Sanchez in the shotgun, How would Shonn look running against a nickel or dime package. AND. If the throws were routinely under 3 seconds, how much better would the line look ? Somehow, Schitty fails to see that. You have 4 guys, including a rookie poised to pass Marino's single season record. That should tell you something about the state of the NFL, not how special those guys are.
I agree... ...but is that all on Schotty? Rex preaches GROUND AND POUND all the time. Hard to do ground and pound from the shotgun, unless you have such a passing threat, like New England, where teams back off. And even that's more finesse running. Most of it is on Schotty, but this is Rex's team.
Seriously, I really don't think Jets need that 3rd WR. I think Jets are better off with 2 WRs and a TE. Jets must utilize Conner more often. I don't recall Aikman calling the plays from the shotgun. He almost always took the snap from under the center, then proceeded. True, this is not the 90's football any more, but then Ground-and-Pound is not exactly offense-en-vogue either. Leave the stretching to the two split ends, and use TE to neutralize the cheating safeties - then it's all head count from there on. Having a lead blocker will do a lot of good things for ground and pound offense, no?
Now we're back to It's Rex's team. If Schotty walked in an pointed out how Offense works in the NFL TODAY, and capped it off by saying, 'So Rex, we spread them out wide, and keep the front 7 off Mark, by making them run downfield for the First 30 minutes and get them tired, then we Pound them inside late with a lead...you know...LIKE NE DID TO US LAST NIGHT... Rex might buy that. (Though NE to be fair did not try to spread us out, because we have three first round corners, and anticipated correctly that we thought they would do that. They were also correct in guessing that we would continue to try to run long plays from the I and expose Sanchez)
Dude. Aikman? The rules were just a little different then.... Just sayin. And if your assertion was taken by the F.O. we'd have NEVER brought Mason in. The GM has constructed a team that the OC will not utilize.
Its clearly, clearly both. Lets say for a minute that Schotty sucks. If we get a new OC, Im sure we can improve some. We still would not have a deep threat, we'd still have holes on the OL, we'd still have a completely unproven RB and we'd still have a QB who makes poor decisions and is TERRIBLY inaccurate. Mke no mistake, its not Schotty's play calling that might ruin Mark's career, its his own inaccuracy. Its absolutely brutal. If we had Aaron Rodgers for example ( I realize theres only one Rodgers) we would be 4-1. We would have won yesterday and we would have beaten Oaktown. A great QB wins regardless. So we can upgrade Schotty but its only going to make a marginal difference with this team. You guys are dlusional if you htink we have the Saints offense here but Schotty is fucking it up. And I truly believe a large % of you guys believe that. We can win with Sanchez as we've proven before. But only with a top 3 Oline and a top 3 Defense. If we had a great QB, we could hide many many weaknesses. Its a QB league and ours isnt even 2nd tier.
1. Grow some brain first and foremost. Aaron Rodgers will fail if he played for the Jets. Like I have been saying all along, JETS DO NOT RUN CONVENTIONAL WEST COAST OFFENSE. Rodgers? He IS a WCO QB. Guess where he learned his offense from? Mike McCarthy. 2. Sanchez is inaccurate? Look. In usual 3rd down and medium yardage situation, the defensive call is usually cover 2, if the offense is spread wide. That is, two safeties will cut the field in half and help, and shallow field is taken up by 2 CBs and 3 LBs - total of 5 bubbles. If the offense sends all 5 receivers to short route, then the receiver will immediately get double-teamed once the ball is thrown in his direction. Show me how you can improve your accuracy from the above scenario. I will recommend your post to Jets offensive staff if you can come up with ANY viable idea. (I am not even saying Sanchez has ungodly accuracy like Pennington. The situation he is in dictates that he just cannot hit those stupid passes.) 3. Last, but not the least, changing OC in a QB's career might be a risky thing, but to say it will doom Sanchez's career is also premature as well. (Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers bellows a huge sigh of relief somewhere around the corner.)
If Jets want to go to ground-and-pound attack, and not utilize lead blocker, what's the logic in that? Having a lead blocker in the backfield is much more advantageous than having a blocking TE because a blocking TE can be effective only if the run is coming his way, but blocking FB can lead the way no matter which way the run is designed at. Or what is Conner doing on the bench? Seriously, who do you will stay with the team longer? Mason? or Conner?
Jerkoff, the Rodgers example was to speak of a GREAT QB, it doesnt have to be Rodgers. And if Rodgers fucked Mike Mcarthy's wife tomorrow and they decided to trade him to the Jets, he would 1) Do way better than Sanchez in this particular system and 2) we'd sure as hell change teh system and get the guys to fit his game. As far as Sanchez's accuracy goes, you're delusional. Sanchez's first pass of the game yesterday was, as usual behind Keller. Do you honestly think Sanchez cant manage to complete 60% of his passes because of your cover 2 scenario? Seriously? The man misses pass after pass after pass. The slants that he loves, he cant throw. He constantly throws behind his receivers. Its not the system. He is inaccurate. Real simple
My larger point is, due to the rules in the NFL, the 3rd WR is more productive than the FB. earlier in the game. You negate a front 7 by making them run AWAY from the LoS. And then you pound them late. Last night NE got two calls one for 38 yards, by having a TE run over a DB. That is te state of the NFL right now. It's a throwing mans game. Throw it, Tire them out, then pound them. We're doing it backwards.
You're wrong. Mark Sanchez says, hello.
Mark Sanchez says hola I can make a 4 minute hilite reel for every QB who ever played in college. What does that prove?
NFL. 4th qtr comebacks, game winning drives, and playoff wins. The kid is a money player. He's not the problem. the problem is the OC that does not tailor the offense to what he did well at USC, and does well, when the score dictates a pass heavy up tempo offense. He did at at USC, and he's done it in the NFL. Passing out of the I Formation, against Baltimore, and then NE a week later? That's not a QB problem. He's not quite as saavy as Pennington, (He's raw), and he Does not quite have Kenny OBriens arm, but his talent is the bastard son of those two guys. He aint the problem. Not even close.
well, you tell me...did we draft him on good looks? The point of the post, was to make it clear that we did not draft a stiff. He's not Gholston. (And if you habla the english, I posted earlier that his record of GW Drives, 4th qtr comebacks, and Playoff perforances are...those of an elite level QB.) the simple point is he aint the problem. Case in point. Last night...Conner drops an easy catch, for a first down and then some. Is that Marks fault? The ball hit him in the hands. My Guess is they do not run that play often enuff in practice, for the Terminator to be comfortable with it.
I think Sanchez has clearly been throwing alot of passes behind his receivers so far this season. Not that I'm discounting the fact that the Oline (and Schotty's terrible calls) have put him in very difficult situations, but when he's had the chance to make plays he's been off and on. When he's on he makes some amazing throws but when he's off he can be pretty inaccurate. I'm not a Sanchez hater by any means but it's hard to deny that he has accuracy issues sometimes.
And to further the point. This is Pete Carroll. His 2008 performance prompted head coach Pete Carroll to note, “Mark has shown he has the ability to be a really big-time quarterback in our system. He has the strongest arm we’ve had since Carson Palmer. He is a resourceful quarterback, able to take off and move and make some plays with his legs and our players really respond to him. Once he was named the starter, he came out more energetic, more demonstrative and took on more of a leadership role, which is what we expected.” All the highlights accentuate that. Now, I could be wrong here, but I'd not presume to be a better judge than Carroll. Great Arm. Great Legs. Great Leader. Great Worker. Clearly he sucks, and it's not schotty.
Clearly he does. and Which ones are they ? The short timing routes that Schotty hates. When he goes Vertical, he's really good.
