For years, Belichick has benefited from the bye week. In fact, he never lost a divisional rd game when he had the extra time to prepare for it. It's not a valid point at all. If you claim rust, that's your own fault. The Saints had the bye week and MURDERED Arizona last year. Same with the Vikings over the Cowboys. The Colts beat the Ravens by 17 last year. You get beat it's your own fault. The only team that could cry foul over the playoffs this year is New Orleans, and I don't care if you're playing in their stadium or your stadium an 11-5 team should beat a 7-9 team.

I wasn't offering it up as an excuse at all. I think his argument that the advantage of home field, and the bye is not what it used to be has some validity, that's all. How many Superbowl Champs in recent years were the #1 seed? #6 seed? I think that's an increasing trend over the last few years.
