Arizona have an elite wide receiver and a kicker that can tackle. I don't see them being just a QB away from a Superbowl. I think we give him a better chance at a ring but then I would say that.

Not sure Arizona can pay him (they had less room under the cap than we did) or want to pay him..I don't think they make that much money to begin with even when they had Warner.

    Nicely put.

As far as Peyton being one hit away from being out of football .... people need to backup & stop putting so much faith in their pretend MD degrees. Peyton would have to be declared eligible to play by his doctors. Then any team PRIOR to signing Peyton would have their own doctors examine him. Nobody is going to sign Peyton & just cross their fingers that he goes an entire season without ever being hit.

You don't need an MD to know that the guy is coming off his third surgery to fuse a fractured spine. Our offensive line right now would be his death certificate.

Your attempt to minimize the situation just tells people that you want the Jets to pick him up.

    A really stupid idea, BTW.

I'm not sure I want the lesser Manning. Aren't there any good Mannings left? Is there like a little brother Jethro Manning who was better than both Eli and Peyton, but whose true love was playing the banjo? Maybe we can pry that one off his backyard stump for a couple years.

Alex Smith, according to many, should have been out of the league years ago...this year he played very good football and deliverer in the playoffs.

Actually, I'm undecided on Peyton & I'm also undecided on Sanchez. Personally, I'd wait for the OC input before making that decision. I don't consider Sanchez a franchise qb but I also believe that he's good enough to win with. As to whether Manning can play, I'd rather wait for his doctors & Jets doctors to make that call. And yes, I do think you need an MD to make the football decision as to whether Manning is healthy enough to last another season.

As far as my attempt to minimize the situation, I'm actually thinking the opposite. Everyone that is assuming Peyton will collapse with only one good without waiting for doctors are the ones with agendas to push. These posters simply want Sanchez to be the starter no matter what.

Just out of curiosity - If Manning's doctors & the Jets doctors stated he's healthy and in football-shape. Would you still believe Manning is not worth pursuing?

Signing Peyton Manning, healthy or not, would cripple the Jets' chances to fix the O-line issues that caused this slide to begin with. The entire scenario is completely unrealistic, but after the past few years I have come to the conclusion that Tanny isn't a fan of realism.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did pursue Manning, but it would still be stupid.

On the one hand, you'd be taking a huge risk by gambling that Manning's neck is actually healed fully.

On the other hand, if he is healthy then he could conceivably play elite level football for four or five more years in the new NFL where hitting the quarterback and covering receivers is all but illegal.

As I said earlier, I really doubt that the Jets actually pursue Manning so this is all probably irrelevant, but I wouldn't be so quick to declare the guy dead.

I don't want another qb, who will be in the hall of fame for another team, who made his name and is associated through another team, not to mention would still be playing for their previous team if they had their way, to win it all for us.

Why can't our fans expect mores than that? Are we are so desperate that we use another team's has been to get us there? We are close, and have been extremely close with Sanchez in years 1 and 2. Why shouldn't we work with that?

Jets fans are amazing we are ready to dump our QB after three years that has shown flashes. This kid was the starter for one year in college give him a chance.

With that being said he needs to show big improvement next season but he is not that off track for a third year QB. Just go through History modern and past he still has a good chance of being a quality QB the position just takes time to learn that obviously Jet fans are not willing to give.

He will never be a quality qb. He has shown no flashes, and if we are being honest, bringing him back will be asking to waste another year.

You dont need years to tell whether a qb is good enough. You need to watch 5 minutes of film. And, after doing that, I dont get how anyone thinks this kid is an NFL caliber QB.

Manning has been in decline for a bunch of seasons now. He started really high at his peak so in decline has turned into a QB rating of 91.0. After the season's layoff I highly doubt that he's going to pick up in his decline where he left off and do an 88.0 QB rat. He's much more likely to have either a bad season or a season that looks good but is all checkdowns and weak throws and gets dominated by good pass defenses.

The way Manning succeeds at this point is to either play in a system very close to what he had in Indy with a lot of very good players around him or to become a Rich Gannon type caretaker with a lot of very good guys around him.

I don't think he can come to the Jets and be the answer, because they're not going to be looking to do either thing, the Indy system or the Rich Gannon caretaker, and frankly they don't have enough talent on offense to make Peyton look good given his likely capabilities at this point.

Mark Sanchez is more likely to suddenly find himself and have a really good year next year than Peyton Manning is to be able to do that given his circumstances.

Funny thing is, none of the multi-million dollar franchize's within the NFL agree with your talent search method - The five-minute film method.

Manning threw for a career high in yardage and tied his 2nd best career mark in TD passes in 2010. In 2009 he had his 3rd highest season in yardage and also tied his 2nd best TD mark.

His YPA was down in '10 but his attempts were up significantly, almost as if they were making up for a lack of a running game with short passes.

The Colts were 10-6 and won the division in '10 with Manning and only won 1 game without him this year. I think it's safe to say that Manning is still playing at a very high level that was covering up for a severe lack of talent on the Colts.

The Jets need a safety, a RT, a second TE, and an every down pass rusher.

IF they can draft a big time safety, making Maybin a full time SS solves many problems.

The Jets do NOT need a QB.Sanchez issues stem directly from e interception prone offense he was asked to lead.

He has performed as well in that offense as well as Brett Favre and Chad Pennington....pretty good company.

Getting Peyton is a reactionary move and not focusing on the concept of a team. If we fail to win a Super Bowl with Peyton we have set this franchise back for many years without having a Super Bowl to fall back on. If we get Peyton and win a Super Bowl, then when he retires/gets injured, management can fall back on the Super Bowl.

In the end getting Peyton would leave us in the same spot in a few years we are right now, sitting trying to figure out what we have QB plus trying to fill many other holes we overlooked due to make a big splash or signing.
