Chase Wright stunt backfired? the guy pitched pretty well except for 4 batters. He'll be back. What did you want him to do w/ him? You guys are crazy w/ the bashing. it's so off base it's ridiculous- you just need a scapegoat.
Casey Stengal won 7 but like Joe's 4 that is in the distant pass. You are one of the Yankee fans that truly believe the only thing that counts is the post season. It isn't. What pays for your "privelege" to watch the post season is the 162 games that make up the regular season. Jeter has had good post seasons, no doubt. Arod has had a miserable 12 game stretch, no doubt. So what? Arod has done more in his three years here to get them to the postseason then Jeter ever has, not withstanding his .342 BA average last year either. He has also done more in his career. Nobody is bashing Jeter at Arod's sake but nobody will let you put Jeter on a pedastal at Arod's sake either.
What shot did he take at the Yankees. He complimented Hughes and said he hopes the Yankees didn't screw him up by bringing him up now. That's what every Yankee fan but you is saying too. It's not Joe's fault. He won those World Series for us, huh? It wasn't heroes like Jimmy Leyritz, or Tino, or Jeter, right? Joe did all the work. Yup, you got it junc. Perhaps you might want to start taking a closer look and determining what everyone else has already. The Yankees win in spite of Joe, not thanks to him. As for last night's game, I would have been happy if I hadn't seen Pavano trying to get him riled up and off the bench. Or maybe Cano not swinging blindly at three straight pitches. Or Abreu not ending inning after inning to let Alex lead off. Or how about even not putting the sub-.100 hitting Mienkiwitcz in the NUMBER TWO spot. But you're right junc. Joe's rings prove he is far more important to this team than ARod. :drunk:
If I thought the Yankees weren't winning in october was b/c of Joe I'd want him gone but he hasn't been the reason. We haven't hit and we have pithed very spotty, that's not Joe's fault. ARod has done more in 3 years to get the yanks to the postseason than Jeter ever has???????  I like you Don but that may be the most asinine comment I have ever seen. A year ago jeter had to carry an offense that had major injuries and, as usual, Alex not hitting. We made the playoffs 9 straight years w/o Alex and we would have made itthe last 3 w/o him as well and we would have had a better chance to win in october w/o him.
It's classic shade, he tries to cleverly hide insults w/in his posts. So let me get this straight, when we won WS it was b/c of Leyritz, Tino, Jeter, etc... but when we haven't it's b/c of Joe? Can you please re-read that and tell me what you think? If the yankees have won in spite of Joe how come they didn't win before Joe got there? So Joe is repsonsible for Cano striking out and Abreu ending innings? I can see not puttingDoug in the 2 hle but he wanted a balancd order rather than 3 straight outs at the end of the lineup. That is not why we didn't score, we didn't score b/c Burnett was great. Again, if Joe gets bashed for the yankees getting shut out where is the praise for him since we lead the Majors in runs scored?
Arod not hitting? he batted .290, had 35HRs and 121 RBIs. That's not hitting? What is hitting to you? Talk about asinine comments, you invented the term. It's just conjecture that we would have made the playoffs without him. That's also stupid.
He disappeareed most of the season but had a great Sept when things were wrapped up. he failed in the clutch time after time after time after time. he was AWFUL last year and his decent #s prove that #s do indeed lie at times. it doesn't help us to hit a HR up 8 runs in the 8th inning or down 8 runs in the 8th inning. ARod was awful last year.
Why must junc turn a discussion about the #1 pitching prospect in the game into the same tired Arod debate? Torre's rings or managing prowess have nothing to do with his misuse of the bullpen this season. It is a shame you can't enjoy having a player of Arod caliber on your team. Too bad he doesn't pass the "clutch" test.
My problem with Joe last night was bringing in Proctor in a lost cause game like he did a few weeks ago. 6-0 game is not a place for one of your setup men or has the great Luis Vizcaino replaced Scott as the 7th inning guy? He needed 18 pitches to get out of the inning. What a waste! At lease Joe finally used Myers for more than 1 batter. I hate to say it but last night was a perfect time to use someone like Bean for a few innings.
When Yankee fans are blaming Torre and think ARod has been the main reason we've made the playoffs the last 3 years then it needs to be addressed.
Arod is part of the reason, not the main one just like he is part of the reason they havent gotten out of the 1st round as is every one else on the team. Its not all or nothing.
So you think allowing him to pitch to batters in a hostile enviornment, against your greatest rival, after already giving up back-to-back homers is okay? How about back-to-back-to-back? That's not a scapegoat. That's a poor in-game manager.
It's certainly not him alone and I have ever said that but no one player has played a bigger role in us losing than ARod the last 2 years
So you thought he was goin to give up 2 more aftre the first 2? after the first 2 he had still pitched well and we were in the lead, after 3 we were stil tied then after 4 we were sown just 1 and he got out of the innng after that. What is that saying if he yanks him at the first sign of trouble? if he did yank him after the 2 HRs you would be saying why id we yank him so soon? No matter what joe does it is wrong in your eyes.
You're proving yourself to be wholesale delusional man. You are the only person on the planet that believes ARod is the biggest reason we lost the last two years.
ANY pitcher should be pulled after surrendering back-to-back homers. And if not back-to-back, then back-to-back-to-back. Not only was he not pulled, but no one even came out to talk to him. You are ridiculous if you think this is okay.
EVERY othr Yankee at least had amoment in the lst 2 playoffs EXCEPT for Alex, Alex was awful at the plates, in the field and on the basepaths. He certainly wasn't alone w/ his poor play but nobody played worse than he did and if you believe differently please show me who did play worse than he did? What are the odds of a 3rd? a 4th? Pitchers have given up back to back Homers many times, just b/c you give them up doesn't mean you get the hook. Again we were still up 3-2 and overall he had pitched a good game. If we pull him and lose you are on here whining the next day that Torre yanked him too soon and you know it.
Oh junc. I would love to argue about this, but it's too tiring. ARod was not the only failure, and surely not the biggest reason we lost. The pitching was a far bigger factor. And the whole lineup went cold save for Jeter, Posada, and Matsui. This whole "had their moments" thing is ridiculous. At what point do you pull a pitcher, especially a kid who is only pitching his SECOND GAME, in the worst environment possible? Like I said, even if you don't yank him after the second homer, how do you let him continue after 3? No, I would not have bitched if he'd have yanked him at that point. Not even after the second one. Hell, I would have been fine if someone at least came out to TALK to him. But they hung him out to dry. Then they sent him packing to make room for Matsui. But somehow the great Thompson is still here...
