Excellent point. Excellent post. Six weeks is a long time. That doesnt mean that i wasnt pissed at the broncos for losing yesterday. But on the other hand, the broncos could go totally in the tank now and not even make the playoffs. And also, of course, Ill be rooting against Cincy, Jax, etc. My hope for the jets at the beginning of the season was meaningful games in December or 6-6. Things may look very different if we are sitting at 7-5 with the Bills coming to town.
We are not a playoff team. Miami will finish ahead of us in the standings! We need to concentrate on getting Clemens in and finishing strong with promise and a decent first round pick for next year. Going 6-0 to get in the playoffs with this team is insane.
right... Lets just pack it in then. And lose to 6 teams in a row with losing records. That sounds like a great plan
Ya thats what I feel. Lets see if we can win the next two then, the playoff picture will start clearing because we will be a part of it. We also may all become big dolphins fans for the next few weeks. They face jacksonville and patriots the next few weeks.
Lets talk about games where someone has to lose: I just used every team who still has a realistic chance at the playoffs. (4-6 or better) Sunday: Jacksonville at Buffalo Pittsburgh at Baltimore Week 13: Baltimore at Cincinnati San Diego at Buffalo Jacksonville at Miami Week 14: Baltimore at Kansas City Buffalo at New York Indianapolis at Jacksonville New England at Miami Denver at San Diego Week 15: Miami at Buffalo Kansas City at San Diego Cincinnati at Indianapolis Week 16: Baltimore at Pittsburgh New England at Jacksonville Cincinnati at Denver New York at Miami Week 17: Buffalo at Baltimore Jacksonville at Kansas City Miami at Indianapolis Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
One positive of the Broncos losing yesterday was it opened up both wild card spots. We now have around 5 teams competing for 2 spots instead of 4 teams competing for 1 spot.
You could look at it that way. Or you could look at it that the Chiefs could be 6-5 and in a bad spot. Now you have two 7-4 teams in the 5 and 6 spots.
all the "realists" need to realize that we are right in the middle of a playoff race with a win sunday and that is fact. i honestly don't care if we are not as good as the rest of the teams we are contending with ON PAPER because we play the easiest scheduale by far down the stretch. I really don't understand how some of you guys have the attitude that "we will get killed in the playoffs so why bother."....it's so off base and you guys sound like jackasses.....we beat NE at their place, should have beaten Indy and probably should have beaten chicago. these are three of the top 5 teams in the league. any fan of the NY JETS should absolutely root for a playoff berth, and even if we do get killed first round, so what. it will have been a fun ride and exceeded everyones expectations except for a few dillusional sunsiders. not to mention, a playoff birth will give this team a winnning attitude as we move to year 2 of the so called rebuilding process
I know that is probably the more realistic way to look at it but I like my way.. its gives me more hope
Right now based on what we know the odds on the Jets making the playoffs are pretty long. We're behind three other teams for the 2 wildcard spots (Denver, Kansas City and Jacksonville) and tied with Cincinnati. That makes 3 teams that we are currently tied with or worse that we need to have falter down the stretch before we make the playoffs. I'd guess that we're talking less than 10% chance here, although somebody else can do the math. The fact that we play none of our direct competitors the rest of the way and have lost to one of them already doesn't make things any better.
Except for a few obvious games, like any game involving an AFC playoff contender against an NFC team, it's too early to really worry about scoreboard watching. So much can still change.
based on your scenario you habe the jets getting the wild card -- i think the playoff picture is still nice --the teams ahead of us all have to play each other and have tough road games --Denver seems to be in a free fall and will have a QB controversy on their hands --Jax can't win on he road --Cinci's D can't stop anyone which will come back to haunt them in close games
That would be a 1% chance. Seriously, there is no team in the NFL right now that has even a 50/50 chance of winning out in their last 5 or 6 games. For the Jets to pull that off we'd need one of the larger miracles in NFL history.

If we assume the Jets to be 2-1 favorites in each of the remaining six games, that means the odds against a sweep are about 10.35 to 1. Not a miracle exactly, but very unlikely. It's just difficult to win six games in a row, even against inferior competition. But it's fun watching and hoping. Assuming a more realistic 6/5 favorite average rating, it would be even more daunting - about 37-1 against a sweep!!
If we win this Sunday, we would have to go 4-1 to get to 10-6, and hope other teams lose. It's do-able.
