Very few calls are made in a vacuum. The refs are watching every play close up including the time between plays. They get a feel for when teams are getting away with murder and it affects them in subsequent penalty callings. They shouldn't but it's human nature.
Funny you say this because I remember the referee looking upset when he had to announce a penalty against the raiders. Then at the end of the game when Sanchez couldn't convert on 4th down, he had this smug grin as he announced that it was not a td.
THIS! Normally, I am very quick to shout about official bias against the Jets, but Sunday was just piss poor all around. That had to have been one of the worst crews ever, and in other games I saw more shitty calls (or non-calls) than not. Goodell is so worried about the image of the game, he needs to consider the game's image when people get sick and tired of shit officials (see: NBA)
So let ME get this straight. We as fans need to shut our mouths about bad calls, and do our talking on the field? Why? I can talk all day about what I perceive to be bad calls against my team. What's it to you? I could give less than two shits about what the rest of the league thinks of us as fans, or of my team. You know why there is a hatred around the league for the Jets right now? Because they are good. People don't tend to hate shitty teams. I personally like that we are not liked in the league. Again. Means the Jets are good. Not sure why the Jets talking about winning a super bowl, or them saying they think they are a good team bothers fans of teams they are not playing so much. And most importantly, did you hear a Jet complain about the calls in the game? Did you hear a Jet bad mouth the Raiders before this game? Did you hear a Jet bad mouth them after this game? Did you hear a Jet talk smack about anyone? You know what? I'll answer for you, since you seem very upset by the Jets and their "talking". No. You didn't. No one really cares what other fans "like or don't like" about the Jets. Go root for your own team. Or do you have insatiable need to concern yourself with the Jets? And where has ANYONE said Mark Sanchez is a God. I mean, anyone. And, btw, the point of this thread was the terrible roughing the passer call against the Jets when Jason Campbell wasn't even so much as KNOCKED DOWN, a call so bad, that the officials conferred and decided to call a non existent Intentional Grounding on the same play, so the penalties would off set, because they will never pick up a roughing flag. Phil Simms, hardly what anyone would call a Jets sympathizer, said on the broadcast that it was a terrible call, and then said later when Sanchez took a punch to the face that he just wasn't sure what roughing the passer is anymore, because the Campbell one was called, and the Sanchez one wasn't. (He also said that after Cromartie's hold was called, saying "you just can't do anything anymore". Clearly Phil did not think this was the best officiated game, and neither do we as Jet fans. Is that okay with the "NFL Fan Respect Police"?) So, all a Jet fan is asking for is for the game to be called fairly, and evenly. If sneezing on a guy is roughing the passer, then punching the guy in the face should probably be too. And it seems that was not the case on Sunday. (and to head off your reply post at the passe, I know the officiating was not the reason they lost the game, and am not blaming the officiating for the loss. And btw, neither did the Jets) Whatever team you root for (you sound like a threatened Giant fan, which is cute) I guarantee you have felt that you have been jobbed by the Refs in games. It's called being a fan of your team. You ALWAYS feel the refs are against you, even if they probably are not. I have a Giant fan friend that is STILL pissed about the Armstead holding penalty in the Super Bowl against the Ravens, and thinks the Refs had it in for the Giants. So get off your judgmental horse, and go post on a Giant board about how great the Giants are because they beat Northwestern's Mike Kafka. And it's NAMATH... HOF quarterback, Super Bowl III Champion & MVP and one of the biggest reasons the NFL is what it is today for you to enjoy. THAT is all.
No. A Fan that gets raped for season tix, needs to sue the NFL, and put the Videotape in court. The League has a vested interest in making all teams viable. The way you do that, is by crucial calls and non calls at proper times.
