One can only hope. Someone needs to come in and take a torch to the loser mentality that has set in, like Parcells did in 97.
I still like the guy, he has almost zero talent to work with and it shows - with the worst QB in the league how can we expect to have anything but the worst offense and we have maybe 3 or 4 half-decent players on defense as a whole and only in the secondary so the defensive struggles do not surprise me either - no-one could win with this roster it doesn't surprise me that we have the worst rated defense in the league - it is staggering that there are 3 teams with a worse rated offense (Jags, Detroit and Texans)
That's the mescaline speaking. At the pinnacle of the high the world turns into a kaleidoscopic Cimini progression.
We seem unprepared every game. Which makes me unfavorable, that said i voted too early to tell because it's year one.
Unfavorable 1st year definitely. He'll get a second bite of the apple if for no other reason the franchise has to display some form of stability in order to attract a higher quality HC candidate and FA's. As it is right now, the Jets are just a bump in the road for most teams. A-list FA's avoid this franchise like the bubonic plague because not only is there no stability, but also no shot at winning. They don't even want Woody's money. Its pretty bad when you can't pay a guy enough to play for your team or even interview. This is rock bottom. Saleh isn't the reason why but he certainly isn't the cure yet. I think his hire was ill timed in that this team really needed an established HC to come in with a winning resume and show these kids how to play winning football. Saleh doesn't have that. Nobody on his staff has that. Hiring a Rookie HC to coach a rookie team was asking for trouble and they got it in spades. The Jets are what their resumes say they are.. If this team is playing at this level of incompetence, and is being coached at this same level of incompetence next year, I can't see how Saleh gets a 3rd shot. JD is going bargain shopping again most likely so there's no A-list franchise changing FA's headed our way. Keeping the status quo to me means no hope until 2025 at the soonest for this team. Keep the faith. 50years goes by really fast when you're a Jet fan.. Just ask us oldtimers.
As others have pointed out, the issue is not the losses; the issue is the non-competitiveness. We lack talent in many areas, sure, but not enough for us to be completely non-competitive. The players we have are still NFL players, but against most of our opponents, they literally look like a CFL or Arena team playing against an NFL team. That's on the coaches for being unprepared for games, being unable to make adjustments, and having no answers for how to address the team's weaknesses. Most likely, Saleh will get one more year at least, but after this year, I don't think he deserves it. The team hasn't shown bit of improvement from game 1 till now. If anything, they look worse than they did at the beginning of the season. Saleh looks lost, beaten, and miserable, and has for some reason been the exact opposite of what we drafted him for in the first place: He was a fiery, inspiring leader, a guy who could develop young players, and a guy who was great with defensive schemes. He came to New York and ended up being the opposite of all that.
We are objectively more talented than last year yet we're not a better team. We may win a couple more games but our point differential is far worse than last year. We are as or more talented this year compared to last at: OL RB WR DL LB (Mosley back) CB What does it tell you when the team is barely better or worse than last year with a better roster? It means the coaching is worse. Yes, worse than ADAM GASE no less. People saying they have a favorable view of Saleh are lying to themselves out of hope. He may improve, yes, but there's no reason to have a favorable opinion of him at this time.
I'm between favorable and too early to tell, so I'll go with too early to tell. I do think he has the right attitude - very positive and upbeat - and has a ton of football experience, if not HCing experience so those are big reasons for me to think he'll succeed. But as Parcells said "You are what your record says you are" - he's 3-10 and has to own a good portion of responsibility for that.
So far twenty guys have him down as favorable; strange that no one has been willing to put their name to it.
The bottom line is I believe in Joe Douglas and as an extension I believe in Robert Saleh. But I do not have a lot of respect for Robert Saleh as the HC. I've seen nothing to indicate he's the right guy for the job. But there's also an issue with talent. This roster really sucks. There is talent but zero depth. Go down one player and we're back to being 2-15. So before I go off the deep end on RS I want to be sure the team is up to snuff.
When I've listened to his press conferences, which is not often, he sounds very intelligent and he doesn't trash his players or other coaches. I like him. I think he'll work out well over time.
If everyone is healthy, yes, you could say the Jets are better than last year. Rebuilding teams are top heavy with talent, they don't have the depth to make up for injuries like say, the Ravens do.
Harbaugh would do it for us But him leaving Michigan after finally vanquishing OSU to put out the Dumpster Fire in NY makes no sense That said Douglas would be a King again to bribe him to come on over and battle his brother in AFC
