If you're right, that could explain why Allen's weight is comparable to Landry's even though his build is noticeably smaller. You don't need a citation, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since you sound like you know what you are talking about, but I still contend that Landry's frame is more impressive on sight and he makes tougher, more explosive hits in run defense. We can argue about the latter if you want, but it will be inconsequential in the long run. I think we've digressed enough, especially since I don't think I'm actually in disagreement about who we want to start opposite Pryor. I'm rooting for Allen, Landry may be more seasoned but he is a one trick pony.
Lmao .. Wow .. We went from, "Predict our Starting Secondary Game 1 First Snap" into almost having the thread moved to .. "Predict our Starting Secondary's Body Fat Percentage, Muscle Density and Game 1 First Snap Individual Weigh-ins using Your Knowledge of Sport Science" Not mocking anyone .. But it's just Interesting how our passion for this team sometimes calls on every possible brain cell in the heat of discussion. Oh yeah .. Milliner .. Pryor .. Allen .. Peterson (though I can see McDougle will only be a few coverage breakdowns away of the starting job if he shows improve (or gets handed the job due to a Peterson injury)) /knockonwood
Great point! And the same patience and strategy should be employed when it comes to mining other precious nuggets of football gold at other positions like WR, OLB, TE etc if and when such golden opportunities present themselves in the coming months.
he's talked about as "toast" when in all actuality he has carved out a niche as an above average nickel back who also stepped in and played cb2 pretty well in the absence of revis in 2012. good tackler, good speed, better with the play in front of him but can stay with his man. doesn't miss assignments though sometimes struggles with technique (getting his head turned) though not a play maker doesn't give up alot of big plays either. all in all he is a solid not flashy player, like bryan thomas was. as with b.t., k.w. biggest offense to this board was being a first round pick, unfortunately for jet fans he is closer to one of our better 1st rounders than the worst
I think you're spot on. Idzik is building the best team that he can (which includes that nasty word 'longevity'). He's drafting tomorrow's superstars using BPA, and in the mean time filling in the best he can with 'this years band aids' (Peterson, Vick, Decker, unnamed as of yet). 3 years from now no one will remember the Jets top need in the 2013 draft, but they sure as hell will remember the name 'Sheldon Richardon'. And hopefully Milliner, Geno, and that new Safety we just drafted. Draft superstars for the future, win as many games as you can now, seems to be his mantra.
I think 3 spots are basically set in stone already, barring injury of course: Dee Milliner Calvin Pryor Antonio Allen Those are by far the best 3 players in our secondary. There's no way Landry beats out Allen after the season Allen put together last year, with his big plays. More likely Landry beats out Pryor if the rookie starts slowly. For the other CB spot, the battle will be between these guys. In order of liklihood of starting: 1) Darrin Walls 2) Dmitri Patterson 3) Dexter McDougle 4) Brandon Dixon 5) Ras-I Dowling 6) Johnny Patrick 7) Kyle Wilson Most likely, it's a battle between Walls and Patterson, unless one of the rookies or new signings comes on strong.
Anyone notice Pryor was wearing 25 at rookie camp today? He must have come to an agreement with Green.
Green was waived. The number was open. hope he ends up being better than the last safety that wore 25 from louisville.
Was Green waived? I thought he was still on the roster as of this morning. I could be wrong, there were lots of reports flying around last night.
Green tweeted he expected to be waived because of Richardson, but Rex disputed this in his presser today. He probably just took whatever cash Pryor was offering knowing if he is cut it might be a while until he finds another NFL roster.
Ok. Thats what happens when you concentrate on work and not important stuff. You lose track of jets transactions. thanks for the info
If that's an underhanded way of saying I spend too much time on the Jets....... Yeah you're probably right.
During Rex's day 2 press conference, someone asked him if Landry's starting spot was in jeopardy now that they had drafted Pryor, and Rex likened Landry to the situation they had in '09 where they told Eric Smith he would be the backup but play in a lot of packages. He didn't say that Pryor was replacing Landry in so many words but that was the gist of it.
I saw that conference, and you could see it pained him a bit to talk about it. He maintained that this doesn't mean Landry is gone, but he knows his spot is in jeopardy. He is very loyal to his players, and Landry has played for him for 6 or so years including Baltimore and here.
