I didn't really like the pick, but he has impressed me so far. He has made at least one big play in every game so far. I hope he keeps it up
If Pouha gets healthy, a 4-3 base shifting between Wilkerson, Devito, Pouha, Ellis, and Coples will be nasty.
This is what I'm hoping hard for. I like the current and potential talent/skills of Wilkerson and Coples; they're blue-chippers. But Ellis looked downright disruptive tonight. If this kid continues to develop the way he has thus far, we're going to have one of the best - if not the best - Defensive lines in the league, and the line will collapse pockets without needing to blitz.
This D line is starting to come together, and from what I saw it's gonna be a monster this season. Also keep in mind that Pouha didn't play last night either and the Jets D line had Newton running for his life back there. Newton was just 6 of 15 for 60 yards and two sacks, and those sacks were hardcore sacks too because he was smashed on those sacks. Ellis was like Godzilla out there, he's gonna be a force to deal with this season. Again, this D-line is starting to come together and may even look a bit like the Giants D-line by the time we reach Week 4 or 5, they were that overpowering last night. Cro was all over the place last night, blocking passes and dishing out some punishing hits. This is one badass defense right here... no question about it.
Couples played well,,,,Ellis was outstanding,,,,,,,,Mo Wilk did not play as well as the other 2,,,,,,,I found myself looking for Wilk at times were as the other 2 guys were constantly involved,,,just my thoughts
I hope they're dirty as shit too. Mo Wilk is a fucking mean ass. Hey worked for the Pats DL. Pouha and DeVito are good, but they're choir boys
I'm beginning to think he could really have an impact this year. Usually I don't expect anything from rookies (I don't think Hill will have the year everyone else does. Usually 3rd season before receivers become a real weapon), but from what I have seen he has played well. His potential is looking better all the time. It seems forever since we've had a player who can consistently get into the backfield and cause damage.
He's made big plays in every preseason game. If teams don't double team him he'll probably continue to do so in the regular season. If they do double team him, that just frees someone else up. He's looking like an outstanding pick so far.
Early in the game on a 3rd and goal the Jets only rushed 3 and it was Mo who applied immediate pressure up the middle to force Cam to throw it away. I had to rewind it and watch it a couple times just to make sure I saw what I thought I saw. I was definitely impressed with Ellis and Coples though. It seemed like 1 or both were always disrupting things in the backfield.
Coples and Ellis both looked solid. I loved Ellis last night. Defense really showed up against the Panthers' ones. Gah, c'mon September, get here.
Ha i loved it last night when wilk jumped on Cam as he was going down and as he got up just rubbed his elbow into his helmet.
Coples has lived up to his first round hype so far. He's been in the backfield on numerous plays wreaking havoc. He got a ton of pressure on Cam Newton and knocked him down several times. If he keeps playing with this same high level of intensity then he's gonna be a good one for us for a long time.
I am guessing the addition of coach Dunbar (replacing Carrier) has something to do with the improved line play.
I agree. That, coupled with the emergence of Ellis and Coples has this line looking much more disruptive than last year. Coples has looked great against the run too.
The whole line has played great throughout the postseason. My only gripe was Maybin missed some easy sacks last night I thought (even though it was Cam who is very elusive).
Rex giving the rookie some pushes there in the interview. Starters come off the field in the exhibitions but rookies keep playing for their jobs until the whistle blows. That's just how it is. You'd never have seen Rex do this in the first couple of seasons. He gushed over Gholston no matter how weak his play. I think it's a great sign that he has a rookie playing well and he's decided to use tough love to motivate him instead of propping him up. Some guys do better when you build them up and others do better when you challenge them.
D-line in general has become the strength of the team. Very good depth and talent especially when Pouha comes back at the NT. This D may end up being the best Rex has had here.
i heard it come directly out of Rex's mouth and he wasn't happy with exactly what Manish tweeeted. There's nothing to debate here, nor is it a reflection of his level of play. Rex flatly said he didn't like that Coples had a woe is me attitude about having to stay in the game. And the comment was totally unprompted.
The best part is that Mo and Coples are just 22 years old while Ellis is 24. Plenty of time for them to develop and grow and plenty of time for them to dominate as jets.
I just hope Rex finds some LEGITIMATE offense guru while he's here - and the whole package to go with it. (starting from QB coach. I want to see Cav canned, frankly speaking.)
