Crossing a street outside a crosswalk is illegal and it's called jaywalking. If someone steps out onto a 50 mph highway at night and gets hit, they're at fault. At that speed there's no way someone would have enough distance to stop without risking losing control of their vehicle. Why do you think Stallworth only got 27 days?
not true. if a pedestrian is jay walking they are deemed at fault, especially if the driver could not see or avoid them. hit a jay walker, just pull the fuck over, even if he dies you'll be okay as long as you aren't breaking any traffic laws when you hit him. had Stallworth not been drunk nothing would have happened to him, so it was never an issue of him simply killing a pedestrian. the problem was that he was drunk and killed a pedestrian, so there is no absolute judgment that simply hitting the guy makes Stallworth to blame.
had enuff time to flash his lights, thus warning the poor fella of the oncoming slaughter about to commence.........
or perhaps there wasn't a safe distance for him to avoid the guy. no, that would make too much sense, you are supposed to slam on the breaks, maybe skid out of control and put your own life at danger because someone else is breaking the law. your need to simplify the scenario doesn't reflect negatively on Stallworth.
apparently hitting and killing another person while drunk is an offense that varies based on state... some people get years, others get a month. oh and he was charged with Manslaughter, so stallworth was found at fault, not the pedestrian. yeah its called Jaywalking, but whens the last time you heard of a guy getting hit jaywalking being ticketed? hell when's the last time you heard of or saw someone getting ticketed for jaywalking? his shift got off duty at 7:15 am according to the article posted which is not the dead of night, in fact in april the sun is coming up at 7 am. either way this isn't the argument that we should be having. The argument should be more about the fact that driving drunk is illegal and that stallworth was well over the limit when he chose to drive. So since the eagles were bombarded with the crap for Vick killing animals, will the Ravens see any sort of repercussions (not from the league) for signing stallworth, some one who was convicted of manslaughter?
So if you're driving along a highway at night, you're supposed to slam on your brakes every time you see someone walk towards the curb? Obviously he flashed his highs to make sure the guy knew he was coming.. and apparently the man just walked in front of him anyway. This isn't 'Nam, there are rules, and there are consequences for ignoring those rules.
Slam on the brakes? how about start to break, or just slow down..... flashing the lights means "hey look out i'm not even thinking about stopping or slowing down..... I get a kick out of the extremes you guys are putting up, "skid out, wreck, rules to be followed" make it sound like the pedestrian was a defiant maniac, as opposed to a guy who just got off of work, trying to catch a bus to go home......unreal......
the man has served his punishment as ordered by the court.it's not like he's o.j. or something.he plead guilty, paid restitution and did his time.plus he has to live with that mans blood on his hands the rest of his life.what more do you want from him?
Do you people even know what murder means? Considering the facts released, Jetblue's scenario is the most probable, and flajetfan made the most sensible post. Get a grip people.
