Schill's gonna even it up Saturday. Then it's all about Red Sox Nation. Wow this is such a great distraction from the Jets.
Great game. By the way, how lame was it for Cleveland to bring in Beckett's ex-girlfriend to sing the national anthem? I guess it really rattled him too...
yeah, Jim Rome just mentioned that. That's funny. But the story from last night is still Manny being a jackass all game long.
Not for me. The story for me is Josh Beckett further cementing his status as one of the best big game pitchers ever, and the Sox staying alive. Those both outweigh Manny not running out a ball he thought was a home run that had zero impact on the game. Not to mention that play resulted in Manny driving in the eventual winning run.
Shocking to see Rosenthal write this as he is a lifelong Sox lover. Of course he is right in what he says though. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7352692 "Manny Ramirez is a great hitter. He is not a great baseball player. Great players run. Great players slide. Great players show opponents at least a modicum of respect, because they understand how difficult the game is to play. One day, Ramirez is going to cost the Red Sox a game, a very big game, and the joke will be over. It could have happened in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, but the Red Sox won, 7-1, so who cared? Manny being Manny. Hardee-har-har. Well, Ramirez failed to slide at the plate in the first inning when he had a chance to beat a high throw from Indians right fielder Franklin Gutierrez. Manny Ramirez made little effort to avoid being tagged out at the plate in the first inning of Game 5. (Jim McIsaac / Getty Images) Then, he stopped at first base after hitting a ball that bounced off the top of the wall in right-center, arguing that he deserved a home run rather than hauling to second or even third. Ramirez might have been out on the first play anyway, and he avoided further scrutiny with the second when the inning ended quietly. If the game had remained tight — if, heaven forbid, the Red Sox had lost — both transgressions would have received far more attention. But as usual, Manny walks, in more ways than one."
And better than anyone on the Yankees not named Alex. The number of runs he creates far outweighs any runs he might cost due to not running out grounders or whatnot. As long as that remains true, I could care less. Overall he's a huge help to the team's performance, not a hindrance.
bad job by FOX on their intro. they showed a montage of tons of images and players and plays from the first 5 games, but didn't show Beckett once. Beckett is the only reason the Sox are still in the series.
Schill's pre-game mix: 2 parts ketchup 1 part nail polish 1 part tabasco sauce 1 white sock Shake well, not stirred. Apply mix.
drew had done basically nothing all series. very bad luck for carmona in the first inning. got ground balls from pedroia and youk, but pedroia's was weirdly hit and he beat it out, and youkilis got on because of an error by cabrera
carmona wild again. I don't see how cleveland can win this. Yeah, I'm basically declaring this over, and it's the first inning. cleveland's chance is since beckett pitched game 5 and not game 4 like he should've, they won't have to face anyone impressive in game 7
