too simplified. you have to consider why those running QB's don't perform as well as traditional passing QB's which may not be relevant to RG3. was it because running ability compensated for a lack of ability that traditional passers posses, such as the ability to read coverages, , leadership, team respect, etc. if that is the case, it doesn't mean having an additional skill set -- the ability to run -- decreases your chance to succeed in the NFL and is thus twice an exception. any player that possesses those successful traits plus has the ability to run would actually be at an advantage, but just because those traits may be rare doesn't mean you can than reduce RG3 to the type of QB running QB's have been in the past. I'm not saying he has those abilities, I'm saying you can't say he is a greater risk to trade up for than Luck because he has that additional ability, which doesn't negate his passing abilities.
Washington being docked cap space makes this trade even funnier. That 2013 first rounder they traded will likely be a top 10 pick.
Washington was already 30 million under the cap..that won't hurt them at all especially since they could spread it over two years..the trade makes more sense now then ever. As somebody wrote it would have cost them even more if it was known how much they would lose from the cap.
Apparently they are fighting the decision, claim the NFL approved all of their contracts that year. Should be interesting as FA starts in less than 24.
There's a lot of smart dudes that had a lot of time to plan this out. I can't imagine the reactions are a surprise to the league. But do you really want the dirtiest word in professional sports bandied about this much? NFL backs down completely or they reduce this heavy fine to nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
It's amazing that the NFL waited until the night before free agency to levy this action against the teams. They had how long to do this and it just pops up now?
