Hahahaha, I was just going to make that exact post, although I would have swapped Cromartie and Asante.
He didn't just omit Kris Jenkins. He omitted a slew of NTs, who deserve more attention than that. Casey Hampton, Vince Wilfork, Jamaal Williams - where are they?
The fact that Jenkins was omitted wasn't really the reason I started the thread, actually, but Jamie Dukes called him out on Jenkins at the end and Woodson came up with such a half-assed reason for Godzilla not being on the list that I couldn't resist. Honestly if someone were to ask me which DT was best out of this list: Hampton Jenkins Wilfork Williams Ngata I would choose Ngata.
^ I have to say, Ngata is not only young and large, but he's also very quick and disruptive along with being a space-eater.
Really? Over Hampton? Over Wilfork? Look, Wilfork is a dick, and as a Jets fan I hate him on top of that, but Ngata over Wilfork? Ngata's top 5, but not #1. I declare shenanigans.
Absolutely. Right now I would take him over any of those players, although I would not compare his short career to any of theirs. He's like the new Joe Klecko. It's hard to find an elite NT for the 3-4, but a player like Ngata is a once in a decade type of talent at that position.
Yep, he's a freak. On a side note I saw videos of him leading his team to the HS national championship in rugby and he was a 285 lb. flanker (RB type) running over the entire defense to score a tri. Man among boys physically.
Jenkins was the biggest reason for our run defense improvement. He elevated the play of all the players around him. That is evident by the collapse at the end of the season. Undoubtably, my MVP of last year. I expect HUGE things from him this year, especially when Ryan moves him around on the DL. I had him as player of the game on 3 games within the first 5 games last year.
i wonder what that looks like. 285 lbs of beast coming at you in a game where they don't play with pads and if you bring him down a whistle doesn't blow. scary.
Okay, now I watch last night's episode and Woodson say Bart Scott is tied with Urlacher as 5th best ILB... is this guy for real? I like Bart but I don't think that's even close to right.
I saw that too. He also said Scott played OLB for the Ravens which I'm almost certain is wrong. I mean - maybe he did once and a while, but he was an ILB, no? Urlacher is a beast but he's been injured the last couple of years. I still wouldn't put Scott at his level though.
It's okay, because once he found out the Jets signed Scott, he immediately dropped him several spots, which actually became more accurate.
That's what I thought too about playing ILB. I wouldn't put either Urlacher or Scott above Farrior or Dansby.
Flanker is not a RB. I play blindside flanker in 15s. I'm rucking the entire fucking game. The guys who actually get the most carries (not touches but actually going into contact rather than immediately passing it away) are, in order: Centers, 8 man, Props. Locks and flankers are mostly ruckers. The second you're out of the scrum as a lock or flanker, you're flying across the field to get behind the backs and ruck for them when they inevitably get hit due to their dancitis. When you get up from that ruck, the rest of the backs have funneled the ball back across the field and you have to chase them and get there in time to ruck for the props. Not to say anything about Ngata, though. You just don't see flankers with that many carries in a rugby match that often.
needless to say theres alot of names he left out. thats what happens when you let a DB make a list of DT's. let alone rod woodson. those who mentioned Jamaal Williams. hes in a massive decline after injury. after being probably a top 5 DL for a good 4 years and going unheralded hes been in severe decline for the last yr or two. but theres plenty of others who were left out. in fact Ive said it once and I'll say it again Kris "Lunchbox" Jenkins is the shit. and I'm a proud owner of a Jenkins jersey. i look for rex to bring pressure from other sides and hopefully the whole defense wont have to rely on Jenkins obliterating double teams every snap and wearing down.
