Best post here......Revis needs a good 1 on 1 with Rex..who will show him pictures of Haiti...and show him how grateful and blessed he is ..that he is losing life's perspective...15 minutes with Rex and Revis will be begging to play the Ravens
What if talking and picture showin' doesn't work? Will Ryan have to get medieval on Revis' ass?
Harris is one of my favorite players but he is not comparable to what Rex had in Baltimore with Ray Lewis.
We should call the local news and stage a protest over Revis's demands, burn his Jersey and show support for the Jets FO.
I won't argue that, but I think he compares favorably to 2010 Ray Lewis. As for my thoughts on Revis holding out, let the drama play out. Revis is an elite athlete and is considered by many to be one of the top 5 players in the NFL. Of course he wants to make more than $1 million dollars this year. He has agents, managers, friends, and family who are heavily invested in him getting paid. If they think he can leverage millions of more dollars by whining to the media, staging protests during OTAs, or threatening to hold out in training camp, then so be it. I don't think it's the most effective way, but his team clearly does. It's hard for me to imagine this situation not getting resolved (although there is always the chance... I just choose not to lose sleep over it), and when Revis does get his new mega deal expect him to get right back to work. He held out his rookie year in order to get paid, and now he's throwing this little mini tantrum in order to get paid some more. Outside these contract related incidents, when has Revis shown he's anything but a team player and a fierce and determined competitor? Yes, I would love for Revis to come out and say it's all about bringing the Lombardi Trophy home for the Jets and that he'll take a cap friendly contract so we can pay all our other stars and bring in even more talent. The reality is, most of us want what we believe we have earned. We want what we believe we are worth. There are exceptions of course, which don't need to be named (lucky Patriots...), but don't begrudge a man what he has clearly earned. Alllll that being said, there is obviously a limit to what Revis is worth. If he is unflexible in his belief that he is worth more than the Jets are willing to pay him, then a different solution needs to be found. You can't justify devoting too large a portion of your salary cap to one cornerback, it will just hurt your ability to field a consistently solid team. How have the Raiders done since they signed Aso to his mega deal? (although to be fair, that might have been one of their better decisions in a decade filled with disastrous ones) Let's all just hope they find that happy medium where Revis feels he's getting the "love" and compensation he deserves, and the Jets get to lock up one of the great talents in the NFL for years to come without hindering their future ability to similarly reward their stars and build their roster.
The other side of this argument is that the Jets FO offered Leon contracts but Leon and his agent were holding out for more green. In the process he lost millions in guaranteed money. Its funny how the players always forget this part of the Leon saga.
I remember seeing this elsewhere. A quick Google search found the following excerpt from a CBS Sports article: The Jets can buy back the final two years, which would be worth $20 million guaranteed. But Revis could lose it all if he misses any of the mandatory practices. "That's something that me and my team have to talk to about," he said, "about letting that money go and fighting for something bigger or playing it safe and going to training camp."
Agreed! I say let him hold out and bitch...the Jets have all the power. We have Cromartie who is a top five CB and a rookie (Kyle) who would be starting on 28 teams in the NFL. If Revis misses any camp he we lose the guaranteed money and make the Jets side even stronger. Plus we have him for six years anyways and who is too say he won't pull this crap again in three more years. He signed a very good contract and he should be there whether a new deal gets done or not. At this point I am starting to hope the Jets play hardball with him. For a guy who was a quite player last year he has become a bitching annoying prima donna.
The guy's been on top ONE SEASON! I'm not denying the fact that he will be a top, if not THE top, CB in the league for years to come, but the fact of the matter is he still does have 3 years left on his current contract which should count for something. He says he has to do whats best for him and his family but by insisting he needs to make $.50 more then Asomugha is proving that it's his ego that's running the show not his desire to "take care of his family".
Since when does Revis even have a family? When players say this crap, I always thought they were talking about their wife and kid(s). Maybe with his rookie contract he could have helped out his parents and siblings with a house and car(s). Revis shouldn't have to play to pay them and buy them stuff anymore. They should get their own damn jobs.
If they couldn't afford to buy it on their own then how are they supposed to afford to keep it on their own? This is how every player coming out of the hood works. I really don't understand the animosity for a guy who is trying to pull his family out of a shithole like Aliquipa, PA.
